Third night spent at Glen Eyrie
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Jan 27, 2015
All of the buildings are old and some are certainly more elegant than others. The grounds are so beautiful, every time I go I wish I could stay longer. I have stayed overnight in three different buildings and done the tour several times, but the tea only once. This is one of my favorite places to take out of town guests. We took my elderly mother-in-law and my sister-in-law and her family and spent the night last Saturday. They were all very impressed with how beautiful everything was and how kind all of the employees and other guests were. You may have frustrations with trying to make a reservation, but I truly believe they try very hard to make it a special experience for everyone. It is a special place.

My wife and I attended the Marriage Get Away seminar with 14 other couples. We stayed in the "General Palmer's" room, and we're treated like "king and queen", with the breakfast in bed. The foods were superb; and the staffs were excellent. The castle tour made us appreciate more about the place and the people who built and lived there more a century ago. But the refreshing lessons and sharing of lives as Christian couples are so valuable that can't be found in any place or time again.

Room tip: Ask for the palmers or the Hillary rooms

Stayed in the top room of the castle and had a real nice experience. Did the tour and learned about General Palmer and his family and the history around the castle. Highly recommend a visit and an overnight if possible.

Went with my boyfriend on our 2 year anniversary and stayed in one of the lodges on the castle grounds. The price was very reasonable for the area and what was offered, $119.50 with taxes. The lodge felt a bit more like a convention center as there was some religious youth event going on there. It was different but I didn't mind it much. The room was pretty nice with most accommodations you would expect just no TV which I also didn't care about. Our room was in the basement of the building so there wasn't much of a view. There was snacks put out in the lodge consisting of different trail mixes which were pretty good and lemon water, though I'm not clear if it was for the hotel guests or the youth group. Once we got settled in we walked the grounds which were absolutely stunning with nice sprawling yards and the beautiful castle lit up with pretty lights and the awesome Garden of the Gods formations around. We also explored the castle which was fascinating. The breakfast the next day was decent. Many varieties of juices. There was fruit, eggs, pancakes, bacon, muffins, donuts, yogurt, and cereal. Kind of your standard hotel hot breakfast. Dining in the castle was nice though. Afterwards we hiked more of the property and got a better view of the castle. We also checked out the rose garden. When we returned to the lodge there were huge turkeys roaming around. It was pretty cool seeing them up close. For as charming as the property and the castle was, I felt it was a good deal and a great experience.

The castle itself is amazing. The grounds are breathtaking and the castle as a whole is well kept and rich in history. We stayed in a deluxe room and though we seemed to be one of very few in the castle, our room was somewhat lacking in comfort. One problem was that our room was tucked away in what seemed to be old servants quarters and it took a long series of twists and tightly uncomfortable turns through rough looking hallways to get to our room. I was disappointed to see that the room had blights such as obvious stains on very worn carpet and lots of dead bugs in the windows - not the standard you expect in a castle. Overall it just wasn't a very comfortable stay as far as the room goes, and this was frustrating considering the cost. Still, the staff was very polite and we had fun exploring the rest of the castle and grounds. Breakfast was enjoyable. I still love Glen Eyrie and everything it stands for. I look forward to attending more events there such as concerts and tea, as we have in the past, but I do not know if I would recommend it for lodging.

Room tip: It may be worth paying a little more to get a Premier Room if staying inside the castle, rather than the Deluxe Room which we stayed in and were disappointed. Or save money and stay in a Standard Room on the grounds.

For just a little more than the price of a chain hotel room, this stay in the castle (with breakfast included) was definitely worth it. The property is on the edge of the Garden of the Gods, and the views are breathtaking. The castle itself and the rooms are beautiful and full of history.
