Bought KFC to picnic at the Garden but had a hard time finding a picnic table in shade and it was a pretty hot day!

There is just no way to adequately describe how amazingly beautiful Garden of the Gods is. It's simply unbelievable that these rock formations even exist in real life.

If you're in Co Springs it would be a pity not to visit...nice rock formations , pretty well maintained and clean park. Not many benches/tables, basically nothing other than the red rocks ... A bit crowded which is probably to be expected given the location,..overall an interesting place but I can't imagine spending more than a couple of hours there unless you're a "technical climber" with a special permit.

While Colorado Springs was not my favorite part of our Colorado trip (that would be RMNP), the Garden of the Gods (or God's Garden as my four year-old called it) was certainly a highlight of Colorado Springs.

We visited twice during our stay: once in the evening after visiting the Air Force Academy, another in the afternoon after going up Pikes Peak on the 8:00am cog train. I preferred our evening visit. For once thing, it was less crowded in the evening. We went around 7:30 or so and stayed until sunset. We let the kids climb on the rocks and took one of the short trails (I can't remember the name, but it was just about a half mile, and a mule deer buck was in our way to begin the trail. The trail got you up higher so you could see well). It was a beautiful way to end the day and deliciously cool.

On our next visit, we enjoyed a picnic lunch after taking the train up to Pikes Peak. Perhaps it was coming from the 45 degree temps at the top that made it seem so much hotter than normal, but the air was very dry, and the high that day in the upper 80s. It was still pretty, but it was more crowded and more uncomfortable temps wise. We took the Siamese Twins Trail after letting the kids climb some more rocks, this time in the Balanced Rock area. They had a great time with this, and also loved climbing around the Siamese Twins.

Because of other reviews, we skipped the movie and only went to the visitor center to pick up a map. Our biggest complaint is that we didn't feel the trailheads/map were very well marked.
