Owner description: There are many things to see and do on our mountain including experiencing spectacular views as you ascend to 14,115 feet, encounter Mother Nature on our hiking trails or watch for wildlife such as deer, elk, bighorn sheep or yellow-bellied marmots. You may even spot the elusive Bigfoot during your visit. The 19 mile journey on the fully paved road to the summit begins in Cascade, Colorado, just 15 minutes west of downtown Colorado Springs. From the entrance, at an altitude of 7,800 feet (2377m) begin to explore the Pike National Forest and the natural beauty of Colorado.Along the way, you'll discover the North Slope Recreation Area, Crystal Reservoir Gift Shop, Historic Glen Cove Inn, and the Summit House. There are three lakes for fishing, picnic areas, hiking trails, and breathtaking views. Stop and watch one of our "Meet the Ranger" Interpretive Programs and learn about the history, myths, flora and fauna on the mountain. All offer visitor services and basic necessities to make your day both enjoyable and memorable.

We took the cog railway up and then down Pikes Peak. Three hours round trip. Because of the weather we could not go to the very top but it was still a good ride. The views were spectacular even in the winter. I imagine the spring/summer would be even better.

If you plan to hike, note that you can take the railway one way up or down the Peak. So you can hike up and ride down or ride up and hike down. Note: There are no bathrooms available on the train.

Spectacular views. Awesome history. If you take the train you can focus on sightseeing instead of driving the crowded, no-guardrail dirt highway. The railway also offers sights not viewable from the road.

WOW!!! What can I say about Pikes Peak. It's amazing!!! It's a must do. We rode all the way to the top on the cog. There was lots of snow. We are from South Texas so we don't see snow and it was beautiful. When you reach the top drink a cup of hot chocolate and make sure you eat a donut.

Went up Pikes Peak in September 2012. What an experience. We were not at all prepared for what we were getting in to. First of all, we were enjoying lovely weather in Colorado Springs and on impulse decided to take a ride up the Peak. The first third of this ascent is lovely. Places to stop, kodak picture moments, lovely scenery, beautiful fall colors. As you travel higher, the road narrows quite a bit and there are hardly any places to stop or even pull over. Ok, so we proceed onward and upward. The road becomes steeper and it became a nail biter as the 2 lane roadway had drop off cliffs and many switch back hairpin turns. Then we saw snow flurries and at 13000 feet, I had enough. IWe found an area that we could turn around and started back down the mountain. This can be a dangerous ride with fog and weather changes. The views are beyond spectacular. I think next time I would opt for taking the railway. Be sure to dress warm because there is either going to be snow and/or wind at the top. And, if you are the driver, you can't take your eyes off the road, even for a moment. Take a good look at the photos here so you have idea of what the driving will be like. Overall, it was a great experience, but I'd take the train next time. :)

We did the Pikes Peak Hwy. Make sure you go in the start of the day, don't wait too long or you won't be able to meander up the mountain and hang out at the top if you want. Man it is cold up top even on a day it's warm down below. We couldn't stay out there very long, the view is amazing. Becareful coming down too fast, stop a few times on the way down and up, take tons of water and some advil in case you get a headache.
