We visited the Academy on the recommendation of some friends who live in Colorado Springs, and were pleasantly surprised. The visitor centre was very interesting, and the chapel was stunning. The planes on display around the grounds were interesting to see as well. Well worth a look if you are in the area.

The facility is extremely interesting and beautiful. The visitor's center has a very well done movie showing a "year in the life" of the academy and a large store. Walk the path to the Cadet chapel and stop inside- very beautiful.

A locals favorite attraction to bring visitors to; the AFA has many things to offer. There is the Visitors Center, stadium, sports venues and miles of hiking, riding, biking trails. On the huge complex are retired aircraft & statues displays, gift shop and the "Chapel" to delight guests.
Located next to the mountains there are beautiful views all around and chances to encounter wildlife. Deer, elk, birds and other animals can be seen on the grounds.
Many special events take place here throughout the year with the Graduation & games being the most popular. The AFA Graduation draws dignitaries and guests from all over. The flyover of the "Thunderbirds" or vintage aircraft is the grand finale.

My family and I attended the Christmas Eve Candle Light services in the main chapel of the United States Air Force Academy. What a wonderful experience. The cadets had gone home for the Christmas holidays and the church was packed with local people from Colorado Springs. The church was decorated for Christmas and each person was provided with a small candle to use during the singing of "Silent Night" toward the end of the service. All the lights were turned down and the candles were lit to illuminate the chapel just enough to be comfortable. The song was beautiful and very moving.
The parking was in a nearby parking lot and there was a drive up drop off point near the chapel. It was very windy and chilly and the walk to and from our car was brisk to say the least..
I only hope that if possible I can do this again.
The academy gates were open to the public for attendance at this service as well as the Catholic service on the lower level of the chapel at the same time.

I'm not an alum of the Academy, but I have reason to visit it often. Everything about this place is magic. The location is a perfect 10. What a setting. The views looking up at the mountains and down at the are magical. The campus and the chapel of outstanding. We like taking long walks around the campus and the surrounding trails.

The university and the US Air Force personnel that protect this school are all first rate. It makes me proud to be an American every time I visit. Luckily, I'm able to be here several times a year.
