While this may be a deviation from mountain and outdoor related activities, it is certainly worth the effort to take a look. Be sure to use the north entrance, or you will have to go around. There is an excellent visitor center with plenty of exhibits and very interesting information on the cadet's life at the AFA. Then, you take a nice short trail to the chapel area. The chapel is amazing inside and out. The Protestant chapel is the large chamber, while the Catholic chapel is one floor beneath it. You also get a good view of the parade ground and can often as we did see cadets marching and training. This is very interesting to watch. A cadet was on hand to show us a live falcon as some of them train with these birds. Also, on the way in or out, be sure to look at the B-52 memorial. You can't miss it. There is no admission charge for visiting. I am certainly glad we did not miss seeing this.
