“We take good care of our cadets”
Reviewed June 12, 2013

This is the only 1 of the military academies I have been to. It is so pristine and nice, that you know we are taking good care of these cadets at least. I would assume the other 2 are as good. The chapel is a must see

“Better than I had Dreamed!”
Reviewed June 12, 2013

My husband has talked for 35 years about his childhood days at the USAF Academy. I have always dreamed of seeing the Chapel but had only seen pictures of the outside of the building. When we finally visited it, it was more stunning than I had dreamed.

Drive to the Visitor's Center first. There you will find convenient public restrooms, as well as a store and a good overview of the academy itself. To get to the chapel, follow a short paved walkway up and around the side of the hill. In the thin air, we had to move a bit slower than usual, but it was not a difficult walk.

The Chapel is celebrating its 50th anniversary, so there were several extras. A wonderful guide told us many details about the history of the building. We even discovered that a $10 donation will yield a lovely 50th anniversary medallion as a memento.

The worship services on Sunday were also open to the public. Organ music was fantastic, and the service, led by a reserve chaplain, was beautifully rendered. The setting, of course, is awe-inspiring, with soaring spires, thousands of stained glass blocks imbedded in the edges of the spires, and translucent windows that frame views of the mountains, sky, and academy.

This is an absolute "must see" if you are in the area. There is no charge unless you choose to purchase something in the store at the Visitors' Center.

“undescribable”

amazing structure. You walk inside and it looks totally different because of the lighting on the glass windows. We appreciated the different religious chapels and the quiet respect the visitors showed.

a good selection and the prices aren't that bad. The view from the Academy is so pretty. The chapel is spectacular. I have been to the Air Force Academy 5 times in the last 3 years. I never get tired of going there.

“Make sure to see the chapel”
Reviewed June 7, 2013

This was an interesting way to spend an hour or so - the film was interesting and educational at the visitor's center. The real highlight was the chapel - it was amazingly beautiful even on a cloudy, foggy day. Well worth seeing.
