After going through my photos and most of them being of the inside and outside of the Chapel, I realized that was the place that I enjoyed the most during this visit. The campus itself was okay. It's spread out and was easy to get around. The gift shop was huge. If you are military (active or retired) they will give you a 10% discount. There was a very good selection of all sorts of AFA memorabilia to include clothing, water bottles, books, etc. To tour the campus, museum, and the Chapel is FREE!
There is a movie to watch as an introduction to the AFA but unfortunately we did not watch it. The hike from the parking lot to the chapel was a bit steep but gorgeous. We even saw a deer. If you time it right, you are able to watch the cadets parading and drilling. Watching the cadets and touring the beautiful Chapel will make this an enjoyable stop.
The AFA setting is beautiful and you can see it from the highway. I would recommend a total of one to two hours here. Talk to the people in the visitor center about tour guides and when to see the cadets. Wear good walking shoes and be prepared for the weather. There isn't any shade while walking between the gift shop and Chapel.
