This large Jesus statue just appears on a mountaintop off in the distance. Quite unexpected but this is Catholic Tana Toraja after all. The views from the top are amazing, though be warned, the place is still under construction. Some areas with no guardrails, broken tiles and workers welding on the edge. The road to the parking area is modern and well-planned. However, the parking area at the top is a mess with mud, no services, and lots of kiosks here and there (selling chips, drinks and noodles) with really very little organization. There is no fee to enter, at least not yet. Despite these issues, it's worth a visit. The surrounding countryside is stunningly beautiful. When we were there in the late afternoon, the place was jammed with locals and tourists alike.

Amazing Makale city view from up above. It's a very nice place that you can visit by car or motorcycle. My husband told me that you can also reach this place via stairs too.
It's about 15-20 minutes car ride from Makale city center. The road going here is newly paved, so it's safer now. Do mind that your trip is going to be up to the hill, so make sure you are a skilled driver.

I really recommend you to go here around sunset time (17:00-18:00 is) because the view is breathtaking. Do watch out for the fog though, it can be quite foggy on a cloudy day, but if you're feeling lucky, you can always wait for a bit in case the fog went away (just like I did).

ps: they're going to built a glass bridge soon just like the one in China but not as long.

Toraja is better now. There are many additional tourist destination, such as Lolai, Buntu Burake Hill and Ollon. This year I went to Toraja on April 2017. My visiting target was Lolai and I wanted to return to Kete'Kesu, but I got suggestion to visit Jesus statue in Buntu Burake Hills. 7.777 stairs have to climb if we want to reach the statue from the front, very challenging, but there is another easier way to reach the statue, from the back side, there is a wide parking area so we can park car not to far from the statue. There is way for disable too. Beautiful scenery stretches upon arrival at Jesus statue. Makale, the capital of Tana Toraja far deep down the hill, and Jesus' hand stretches to bless the city of Makale and its surrounding, bless me, bless the world with God's Love, so great! I love you LORD.

Its very easy to access from the city of Makale, so for sure its a MUST visit if you are in Toraja.

We went there on a early morning trip. We didn't plan to go there but our driver suggested and we said OK. And we didn't regret it.
It is a nice place. We can tell that it's new. May be it's not fully finished yet, so I guess more nice things to be enjoy later on.

loved the view and the early morning breeze.
It was a foggy morning, so we couldn't get a good picture out of the statue.

It took us 20 minutes to reach the Buntu Burangke hill top from Makale Town.
On top the Burangke Hill , a colossal statue of Jesus blessing the land can be seen.
From the adjacent view point we can have a magnificent view of the Torajan highland as far as the horizon. A wonderful experience to be blessed with the blessings and the views he he

The path has not all been paved, it is still under construction. Aiming to build the biggest Jesus statue, well, I think they succeed it. The road uphill is steep but alright. From the parking lot, we need to climb a little bit to come to the platform. Amidst the statue, the view is very beautiful so it is not only for religious tourists but for all who loves to see panoramic view.

Thumbs up for the local government which decided to build this site. Can't wait to see how it goes once the project is finished. Mind you, this place is built to accommodate mass tourists and domestic visitors.

This is the highest above sea level Jesus statue in the world, although not the biggest one. The construction was not finish yet, but the statue itself had been finished. The statue was amazing and we can see the view of Makale city from here.

Site is still unfinished. Road is unpaved yet but it is still worthwhile to walk up. You can have a good view of the city.
