“Excellent Family Trip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 21, 2013 via mobile

We were looking forward to seeing the Gorge from the bottom on this trip through Canon City. We made arrangements to take the 12:30 train and almost missed it due to a accident on the way into town, but the staff was very helpful, and I even think they held the train a minute or two just to accommodate our situation. The service was just as good once we made it to our seats. The food was enjoyable for both the kids and the adults. We rode in the glass domed car which was well worth the price. The ability to see was awesome and really enjoyed the personal insight we were given by our waiter who was in training named Mitchell. We moved in and out of the train and enjoyed the open air car even though it was a little cold on the day we traveled. All of my kids enjoyed this event, which is sometimes difficult with a 14 year old daughter and 7, and 5 year old boys.

One tip, make sure you ask to be seated on the water side of the train. The train goes through the Gorge and and returns with the same side always looking at the water. The other side of the car struggles to see the impressive views. Enjoy!

“Amazing Views”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 18, 2013

Amazing views, of the canyon. The staff was very friendly and helpful, assisting us on finding the depot for the tickets all the way through suggesting future events on the train. Staff was very knowledgeable about the route and the history behind it, however the "background" music often overpowered their communications with us (turn down your music please). I liked the modified open top cars for the views, it brings a new perspective to riding the rails.

Thank you so much for including the Royal Gorge Route Railroad as part of your Colorado itinerary! We believe it is our staff that make our Railroad such a wonderful experience, and we are glad you feel the same way. Our audio system, however, seems to have detracted from your experience, and for this we apologize. This is a challenge we recognize and we are currently working to update and correct this concern for future riders.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We hope to see you again soon!

“Octoberfest did not deliver!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2013

This was going to be the "main event" of our weekend trip to Colorado. We booked the Octoberfest lunch online. The veal bratwurst was cold and had no flavor. I could not eat it. They actually ran out of the Octoberfest beer in the first 1/2 hour of the trip. They also ran out of the Black forest cake (that came with our meal) and substituted with a frozen creme puff.

The scenery was beautiful and we saw a moose in the water. However, this is a pricey train ride considering you are only going 12 miles.

I would not recommend going to the area for just the train ride. However, if you are in the area, and have two hours to fill in, try just the train ride. I would recommend you definitely pass on the lunch.

“Excellent trip...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2013

This is an excellent rail trip for all ages. The food was delicious and filling, kudos out to Jeremy Garrett and the staff. The other staff were friendly, informative, and quite personable which made the trip up the gorge and back relaxing. And the Royal Gorge itself made me feel as if I were stepping back in time to the early formation of the Grand Canyon; views were excellent and got a lot of nice photos. I would highly recommend this trip and can't wait to try some of the specialty excursions as well.

“Fabulous!”

This was a wonderful trip! Great service and food. Did Vista Dome lunch on a classic Colorado fall day and it was perfect. Beautiful views and even saw some big horn sheep!
