Owner description: Experience America’s most spectacular rail journey aboard the Royal Gorge Route Railroad. In 1905, President Teddy Roosevelt described it best as “the trip that bankrupts the English language!” This memorable train ride through the Colorado Rockies features gorgeous scenery, great service and delicious food, sourced locally and prepared fresh right on board the train for breakfast, lunch, afternoon and dinner excursions. The train is running at 9:30, 12:30, and 3:30 daily in Coach, Club, First Class Lunch and Vista Dome. First Class Dinner and Murder Mystery dinner trains run on weekends. Wine Dinners run in August and October, and Oktoberfest runs September through October. Welcome Aboard!

Decided that morning to take the 9:30 am ride. We opted for the Vista Dome seats and ended up spending most of our time in the open air car enjoying the breeze and views. Choose the Vista Dome seats if 1) the weather is too hot or cold to be outside for an extended period of time --OR-- 2) you cannot stand for long periods of time Otherwise, get coach tickets...you'll spend so much time outside anyway. My husband made a comment, "You just can't see this anywhere else." He is right. The ride allows you to really look around. It is 12 miles out and 12 miles back in on the same track. They stop the train and it simply reverses and backs into town. The views are just as spectacular both times. The train runs right along with the river. We got to watch the rafters. We did order some breakfast first thing upon boarding and I have to say it was excellent food. There was only one place we could see damage from the recent fires. We were so glad that we decided to take the train. It was our favorite part of our trip.

Had a great time on the 2-3 hour trip. The views of the gorge are breathtaking and the trip is very comfortable and smooth. Would highly recommend.

We chose the vista dome which was well worth the money given the panoramic views from the windows. The service was prompt and the food tasted good. The views of the gorge is spectacular especially near the suspended bridge. We spend some time on the open car as well and my 2 year old son and his 4 year old cousin loved waving at the people rafting on the Arkansas river. Overall it was an enjoyable experience.

We took the ride on August 10, 2013. Really enjoyed the ride with the scenic views and freindly people. We had the gourmet lunch deal, which was excellent. I would have rated this a 5 star, but, the ride was cut short due to a rock slide from the storm the night before. Obviously not the Railroad's fault, but they didn't tell anyone before hand and we paid full price for what appears to be about half the ride. Other than that, I would highly recommend the ride and lunch deal.

We really enjoyed taking a ride on the Royal Gorge Route. We went on the Cog Railway to Pike's Peak earlier on our CO trip and did not have an enjoyable time due to being seated facing immature teenagers who thought it was funny to make out and talk about sex for 3 hours in public. This totally made up for that. All staff on the train was very friendly and professional. The train offered a very good lunch menu selection (12:30 train) and they had a full bar. There was some beautiful scenery along the Arkansas River and the Royal Gorge Region. We were very disappointed to find out that the Royal Gorge Bridge Park suffered a fire and was currently closed, as we had been looking forward to going to the Park. The train was a great alternative to the Park being closed as we still got to see it from below. The train was very clean and you can go outside on an observation car. We spent most of the ride outside after finishing our lunch. Would definitely recommend this!
