“nice hotel rooms but thats about it.”
Reviewed November 4, 2013

First of all I live in Costa Rica and travel all over the country. Rio Celeste Hideaway is just that. It is found on an isolated lastre 4x4 road that is hard to get too in the rainy season. The road to the hotel was un driveable and very dangerous to drive on at dusk into the
evenings in the rain. We got 5 kilo in and the bridge was washed out. Tried calling the hotel and got very little help. Elizabeth sent us on a 1 -2 hour round about when Oscar had just told us there was another entrance 5 kilo. down the road. The receptionist Elizabeth was extenely rude when we got to the hotel tired after such a long long drive. That was so dissapointing to be greeted in that manner with an attitude of that kind. The total trip was around 5-6 hours from Alajuela not 3.5 hours like they claim. The hotel should have better awareness for clients driving there about road conditions to get to the hotel. If we were tourists feom another country qith no cell phone and came across the river that formed over the bridge we would have been in big trouble. The fact that the hotel personel had no idea about thw road conditions to get there is dangerous for anyone driving to that hotel in the rain. One day some one qill try to cross thesw overgrown rivers and get seriously hurt.
The food is not good. The menu sounds good but once served it is very disapointing and expensive. Becuase the hotel is so out there it's your only option.
The river on the property is very nice . The hike to it is very pretty and easy. Unless you just want to stay in your room and walk to a river I would not reccomend this hotel for the prices they charge and the service they give.
I have always wanted to visit
this hotel but found it
disapointing once I got there. The attitude of the receptionist is just not acceptable and when talking with other guests they had the same problem. We stayed only one night and that was enough for us.

Dear guest,

Thank you for sharing your experience; we appreciate your comments as they help us better understand where improvements may be necessary in order to meet the expectations of our guests, and maintain consistency in our standards.

We would like to address the specific issues you may have encountered in a detailed manner; it is important to note that despite being in a rainforest area, the amount of rain you experienced during your arrival at the hotel is not the usual at all and neither the overflowed rivers, that afternoon, we all were facing weather conditions beyond our control.
Also we regret that you found the quality of our food not up to our regular standards. However, please be certain that your comments will be handled in a Management Level and will seek improvements and training with our staff.

We appreciate your feedback and always take the opportunity to use guest comments on this important site as a way to improve both our service delivery and product. Hopefully you will give us the opportunity to serve you once more in the future.

Cordially,

Starting with every member of the staff icluding the General Manager, the restaurant, the spa the rooms, the layout and the location of the hotel itself... there is no other word to describe this place better than heaven... Everything its so clean and organized; the decoration of the different areas its also very soothing and pleasant. If you are looking for true relax this is where you need to come.
Great swimming pool, nature all around it, that path to the turquoise water colored river, the food, the spa experience..are just out of this world.

Room Tip: Its a little rough little road (last 10 miles or so) but is 100% worth it once you get to the hotel...

Amazing hotel, friendly staff, and a truly relaxing stay! We loved everything about the hotel, it is a pretty tough road to get there, but totally worth it. Private rooms had great views of the rainforest and absolutely wonderful outdoor showers. Restaurant was delicious and great staff. Be sure to book a tour to Rio Celeste waterfall- Gorgeous! Perfect for any type of trip!

I think this has been one of the most romantic Hotels I've ever been. We went to the Tenorio National park by ourselves and paid a tour guide $30 for both of us so pee could make time for checking in and relax after the hike. They welcome you with a damp towel and a cocktail. Staff is extremely nice and kind. Rooms are spacious and comfortable the outdoor shower is fantastic. Beds could be a little more comfortable. The hotel has access to the river, you have to walk less than a kilometer and they have towels in case you want to get in the river but it has lots of rocks and doesn't seem very safe. Food is OK, a dinner for two with dessert is about $60. There are a few options for lunch about 200 meters from the hotel in case you want something different but would only reccomend it if you come in a 4x4.

We just returned from 10 days in Costa Rica and we started our trip at the Rio Celeste. We stayed 4 nights, and this place was absolutely beautiful. Rooms were spacious, private, and immaculately clean. The outdoor shower was a huge bonus....I could have stood under it for an hour!!! haha Hikes were all within walking distance of the hotel, and the blue water and waterfall were breathtaking...a must see! Hotel staff was top notch and food was fantastic. There were plenty of options especially if you are open to eating meat, fish, pasta, veggies, etc. My husband and I tried something different every night, and were never disappointed. It is remote, so I wouldn't spend your entire vacation here, but it is definitely worth making the visit for a few nights. We highly recommend this place and will definitely return!

My boyfriend surprised me with this amazing place. And oh my, we were both blown away. The immediate friendliness of the staff, gorgeous views and all around beauty were truly superb. We ate both dinner & breakfast there and the food was incredible. We were savoring every bite. The room felt like a true paradise. Comfortable bed, jacuzzi tub & so much more. We hiked thw trails to the river where we went for a swim! The beauty there was amazing, too. This place was worth every dollar. We will definitely be back!

We just got back from our honeymoon here (Aug 27-31), and it was an awesome place. The grounds are completely manicured so it seems like you are walking around in the rain forest anywhere in the resort. The casitas are beautiful and large, outside shower is a plus. The rainforest view was worth it, the casitas are worth relaxing in. It was low season but the staffing was adequate, the only thing not open was the swim up bar. Service for us was was quick and excellent at the restaurant, and the maid staff practiced oragami with the towels everytime they made our room. Dinners were excellent, breakfast was good, we never ate lunch at the restaurant. We did the horsebackriding tour and hiked in the National Park, which has the bluest river and a great waterfall.

The drive is longer than advertised, but was totally worth it. It's about 100miles (170km), but speed limits are 35-45mph (60-80kph). All highways we saw in the country are 1 lane each way and shared with lots of trucks which go slow. The last 15 or so km of the trip is on a very rough road, we couldn't go more than 5-10 mph on there it was so bumpy. Highway 1 was shut down for an accident so in the end it took us about 5-6 hours to get there from San Jose Airport. I would suggest either flying into Liberia (which is more expensive), or taking a route to the west of Tenorio National Park. You can get on the same rough road from highway 6 (pickup the directions from Liberia airport on their website). We went that we when we left the resort and it was much quicker/less climbing through mountain towns.

Room Tip: Get the rainforest casita.
