My wife and I booked an all day raft trip on the Arkansas River in a stretch called the Numbers/Narrows. Upon our arrival we were somewhat disappointed to learn that the water level and velocity was too high to raft down the Numbers section. This was no fault of AVA. As explained, it simply was not safe.

Still, we had a wonderful experience. Our guide, Zach, was excellent. While to mood was light and fun for the most part, Zach was clear with his instructions and made sure we were in the best possible position for navigating the river. At one point, one of the other rafts in our trip flipped. Knowing that we were safe, both our guide and the "guide" in the kayak instantly jumped to attention. We pulled to the side of the river and waited while these two gentlemen quickly ran up the river bank to assist the people that capsized. I was impressed by their professionalism.

The balance of the day was a blast. The guides cooked up a great chicken fajita lunch and then we were on our way to Brown's Canyon (which was the section we rafted as a replacement for the Numbers). While this stretch was not the wildest, it certainly is very beautiful. All in all, we had a fun and safe experience filled with plenty of excitement.

AVA gave us one of the most memorable parts of our trip to Colorado. the mountains are beautiful the scenery is captivating but the rafting was all that and more. The weather for the day was horrid but the guides at the Buena Vista outpost were cheerful and helpful all day. Our guide Joe was great, he knew the river and the history and he made sure we all had a great time on the river. I can't say enough great things about the entire group at AVA .... this was our first rafting trip but definitely not our last thanks to all the people at AVA who made this a great trip. I highly recommend these guys.

Russell, our guide, made the trip the most amazing rafting trip one could have. He was so fun, energetic and safe and made our rafting experience absolutely fantastic. When we decide to raft again, we will definitely book with AVA and hopefully be guided by Russell again!

I took my two teenage daughters for a quick weekend getaway. Everything was just right -- we arrived around 3 and checked in, then did our zip lining from about 4-6, stayed overnight in the cabins and did a full day raft trip on Sunday. We left Denver area around noon on Saturday and were back at about 7pm on Sunday, but it felt like much longer.

The cabins at Granite Outpost were rustic, but nice, which was perfect for us. Note that they don't have kitchenettes, but you can grill on charcoal there, or luck out like us and the guides doing dinner there will let you use part of their propane grill. (Apparently they will usually offer you a zipline & dinner package, but they missed that with us.) After dinner we wandered up the hill to where the fire ring is and had a fantastic campfire and roasted marshmallows for s'mores.

The rafting was fantastic -- late season so the water was low, around 350cfs if you care to know. During early June it can get up to 7000cfs by comparison. We boarded the bus at 9:30 and were on the river by about 10:30. It's an exciting stretch, but I bet with high water it gets *really* exciting. We stopped for lunch about halfway down and had some delicious chicken fajitas. The guides were great, friendly and entertaining and obviously very capable.

We were off the river around 2pm and back to Granite Outpost by around 3. They'll have photos of your trip available, which are hard to pass up. There's a nice little store with various clothing and some drinks and ice cream bars. You can grab boat shoes if you forgot them, or some neoprene socks to keep your toes toasty.

We went zip lining in the morning & white water rafting in the afternoon, with a wonderful lunch in between. The guides for both were absolutely fantastic! We had Sarah and Kevin for zip lining and our group had Sarah for the rafting - she is great! Hope they keep her on. My husband is already stoked about going again next year. I will say, their camp sites leave a little something to be desired, unless you like camping in a desert-type setting. We ended up going down the road to a public camp site, which was more to our taste.
