Hearthstone lived up to all of its reviews with regard to the food. My short ribs were amazing, and hubby's lamb was everything he expected. But...we were rushed through the meal like an express train. We didn't order drinks or wine, which may have upset the waitress, but that's no reason to hurry. Just one example - we ordered dessert (a yummy carrot cake and vanilla shake), and the waitress brought us the bill at the same time as the dessert, then about 2 minutes later came by to ask us if we were ready with the bill. I strongly believe that I shouldn't be asked to pay for the meal without finishing it first, but apparently the waitress felt otherwise. There were other examples throughout the evening, and it left us with a bit of a bad feeling by the end.
This was a Wednesday evening and they were very busy, so be aware that their popularity may have caused them to have a bit of a throughput mentality. But the food was indeed marvelous!

When your waiter is visibly upset that you don't order alcohol and then delivers terrible service, it's actually quite surprising. On top of that, the overpriced food was mediocre at best. Very disappointing.

We never stay in the summit county area of Colorado without eating at Hearthstone. It is located a couple blocks off main street in Breckenridge in a multi story wood frame corner house that is very attractive. It is a cozy place that has the perfect ambiance for a great night out for a romantic dinner. We have eaten there several times over the last few years and have never been disappointed by either the service or the meal. We live in Miami so fine dining is something that we are accustomed to and try to seek out when we travel. It has a large enough menu to be intriguing and they have special offerings to add a little more interest. They will also tweak things to accommodate vegetarians and are perfectly willing to cook to your preference such as not using butter. The wine list was adequate but the desserts are to die for. This place belongs on your hit list if you want to get away from the usual tourist restaurants and beer bars that are typical for resorts and kick back and be pampered by the delightful staff at Hearthstone.

My husband and I ate here on a Saturday night. Reservations are a must. Initially we could only get in at 9 pm but we asked to be called if any cancellation, there was and they really did call. That was the beginning of our wonderful experience here. Very customer oriented. The atmosphere is charming and romantic. We sat upstairs by the fireplace. Our server was knowledgable, friendly and very attentive. It just kept getting better because then we looked at the menu and were delighted to see many fantastic sounding choices. I had the rack of lamb, which is an absolute MUST order dish. Perfectly prepared- the best I've had anywhere. My husband had the elk which was also good but second compared to the lamb. He started with the crispy lobster and was happy with the spicy dipping sauce. I had the arugula and beet salad which was light and wonderful. It had goat cheese and a little sweetness with pomegranate. Not your typical beet salad. For dessert we wanted to try almost everything on the menu but were too full, so finally settled on splitting the cake and shake. Divine, moist, rich carrot cake. We would come back here again and again. I feel it stands up to many of the best places we have eaten across the country.

Our family of 4 had a delicious and fun night on Monday night. My Colorado lamb chops were the tastiest thing we ordered. My hasband enjoyed the elk but the portion was too large. We loved that the sides and sauces were paired by the chef and not a la carte like at the Briar Rose. We sat in the 2nd floor parlor by the bar. It was a great table and pretty and cozy. Service was outstanding. The waiter was helpful suggesting wine pairings. My 12 year old ordered a first course and a salad for her meal -- a great tweeter option. The only one not thrilled was our 10 year old who was unhappy with their healthy version of kid's pasta -- whole wheat with carrots. Expensive but we really enjoyed our experience.
