We booked for a week here before we travelled on to Vail. We had a studio apartment which as a bedroom, bathroom and separate kitchen and lounge. Lots of room, almost the size of a suite. Plenty of space for all of the winter luggage.

The staff were brilliant and very helpful. Facilities were good and all in working order, pool, hot tubs, gym. You can ski straight back to the hotel from the mountain and take the gondola from opposite the hotel or the hotel shuttle to the other lifts.

The hotel shuttle would take you to the main street in the town and collect you from any of the eating and drinking establishments. Though it is easy to walk to and from the main street and after the great food and drink the walk back was often welcome.

Breckenridge is a great place to stay and has the chilled out feel that is welcoming.

Let me be clear, we loved this condo (#5202 in building 5 -- rented from vrbo) and would recommend it. But it wasn't as easy to get to the skiing as we thought from reading the reviews. We also had a problem with the altitude and found that the condo being a little stuffy contributed to that. If those things don't bother you, you'll love it. If we didn't have such a hard time with the altitude, we'd be back there next year!

We have 3 kids (ages 6, 10 and 13). We stayed for 3 nights and skied 2 days. With 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a comfortable size family room with pull-out couch, full kitchen and dining table, it was a perfect size for us. The condo was quiet and nicely decorated. The 2 hot tubs and pool outside the building were great. We found the ski locker to be very convenient. We also used the washing machine and dryer which were in a little room off the interior hallway of the building. There was also a nice, small exercise room if you haven't had enough exercise on the slopes!

We mostly used the kitchen for breakfast and holding massive quantities of gatorade in the fridge. The grocery store was a short drive (City Market was the bigger/nicer one) and we bought food to cook in the condo one night. We were too tired to cook the other nights, so we ate out at restaurants down in the town. Plus, when we would return from skiing and take off the coats, gloves, pants, helmets, goggles, etc, they covered up the entire table!

The area of town with the shops and restaurants was very attractive. It was what you would imagine an old world town area that they created new at Disneyworld! Technically, you could walk from the condo building down to the area where there were shops and restaurants, but we were too tired to do that after skiing. Also, the high altitude results in shortness of breath with very little exertion. It's downhill on the way there, but uphill on the way home and we didn't want to do that at night with small kids. However, it's an easy 2-3 minute drive, it let's you "cruise the strip" and see what's there and it was always easy to find on-street free parking. (The building has a parking garage underneath that you can only access if you have condo key).

We have never skied at a resort like this before and when other reviews said you could ski into the condo and take the gondola back out, we imagined something a little easier. The size of the resort was just much larger than I realized. I was thinking you could come home for lunch, but it was not really feasible with kids.

First -- getting to the slopes. If you weren't wearing ski clothes, wearing big clunky ski boots, or carrying your skiis poles and helmet, it would be an easy walk to the gondola. (We got smart the second day and wore sneakers to the gondola in the morning and carried our ski boots!) You can't see the gondola from the building. (I never saw the tunnel some reviewers mentioned). We would have had to cross a busy street and then walk across what looked like several big parking lots....I am tired just thinking about it!

However, the shuttle was great. The lodge will give you the phone number at check-in and you just call it about 5 min before you are ready to be picked up outside the building. We also called the shuttle to pick us up at the gondola when we were done at the end of the day. It's free, but you do give them a small tip. (You could also drive your own car over to the gondola. Parking was $5 on weekdays, $10 on weekends and the lot was not full at all when we were there the last week of March). The gondola opens at 8am. There was no line to get on the gondola at that time (early, I know, but we wanted to make sure we got to kids ski school no later than 8:30 a.m.!) and the gondola moves pretty fast. It takes about 5-7 minutes to get up to the base of Peak 8. Then you have another few minutes to carry your stuff to the ski area. Thus, if you have kids, I wouldn't plan on walking from the condo to the gondola or back.

On our second day, we tried the "ski-in" method of getting back. From building 5, we couldn't see where the "ski-in" slope came into the area. However, we knew it was the 4 O'Clock run and just took a chance, getting on the lift right before it closed at 4pm. Apparently, there is a branch off of it that heads closer to MTL that we missed. We skied all the way to the end and ran out of snow! We had a short distance to walk to the street to figure out where we were, but we called the shuttle and the driver picked us up with little wait. So, while it was fun to do at the end of the day, if you have kids with you it would waste a lot of time if you skied home for lunch and then had to get back up the gondola again.

The only down-side of the end of the day run down 4 O'Clock was that we had stuff in a locker to go back and pick up. The gondola to the top stopped running at 5pm, so we had to take a series of free shuttle buses to get back up there. There is nowhere to park up there unless you are staying at One Ski Hill.

We did find the altitude to be a problem. We had spent one night in Denver to acclimate, arriving in Breck about 24 hours later. We knew we were supposed to drink lots of water ahead of time and we had done that. Still, we had a lot of trouble sleeping (my "sleep quality" rating does not reflect this as it was my personal problem!) and had headaches and some nausea as well. (Kids adjusted better than adults). There was no central air and the temps outside were in the 50s and 60s -- great for skiing but we needed fresh air. Yes, the windows opened, but then we were balancing inside temp vs. airflow the whole time. In hindsight, I wish I had tried the O2 Bar down in the town. 30 minutes of oxygen was just $20. We did buy a little portable O2 bottle, but I think it was a case of "too little, too late."

In short, I would highly recommend this condo. If we hadn't had the altitude problems, the trip would have been absolutely perfect!

This was my second stay at Mountain Thunder Lodge and will not be our last! The location to slopes, Main street and even the grocery store is perfect. We used the shuttle daily which was always on time, the drivers were friendly and had some good advice on trails and areas to ski in Breckenridge. We stayed in the one BR condo. The room was quiet and bed/sofa sleeper were comfortable which for me is very important after full days of skiing. The kitchen was well equipped, we enjoyed the pool and hot tubs. The town has a small town feeling, with excellent choices for food and shopping.

Mountain Thunder Lodge is the perfect place to stay and ski! The pulchritudinous view is breath taking! The miniscule town of Breckenridge has everything you need to have a magnificent vacation. You are able to ski in to the town houses and use the Gondola to head back out to the slopes. Consequently, when returning to the trails, you are able to call the shuttle service and they will take you up to the Gondola within minutes. Additionally, the rooms are upgraded and expansive as well as comfortable. The service members and hotel employees were always prompt and helpful. Therefore, I highly recommend Mountain Thunder Lodge to everyone that wants to have a blast on their trip!

Room Tip: The two bedroom townhouse was simply splendid!

We returned to the Mountain Thunder Lodge for the third time in the last 7 years and rented a two bedroom condo for 7 nights while we skied 3 timmes in Breckenridge and 3 days in VailWe love to stay in Breckenridge even though our favorite place to ski is Vail. Skiing in at the end of the day is particularly appreciated. Our unit was very nice and well furnished. We enjoyed it immensely after skiing all day and feeling more to stay home than to have dinner outside. The condo had this "homey" feeling that we needed. We were on the second floor just above the hot tub and this can be noisy as the bathers seemed to need to be loud in their discussions. Fortunately the hot tub closes at 10PM but we would have preferred an earlier time.

Room Tip: avoid being above the hot tub. Note: it is ski in but not ski out

We stayed here for 3 nights recently during a week-long snowboard trip. My husband and I were in a one bedroom, one bath condo in the main lodge, room 1306. It was a super cozy unit, with a great floor plan and nice location. Although it always stayed a bit warm and we slept with our window cracked, it was such a comfortable stay.

Pretty great location, 5 minute walk from Main Street, and 5 minute walk to the Gondola. I had read great things about the shuttle service, but it didn't work so well for us. Make sure to find out where they pick up when calling for a ride. Things were so close though, it didn't really matter.

The staff was very helpful and friendly, and the facilities - pool & hot tub - were good.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the front (even numbered ones, I think) get a little more noise due to people checking...

We spent three nights at Mountain Thunder Lodge in Building 5 condo #5102. This ground floor, 2-BR unit was nicely decorated, with very comfortable beds. The unit is located very near the laundry, ski lockers, pool, hot tub and shuttle. It's a very quiet building, and we will request this unit next time. The check-in was easy, and we used the free shuttle service to get around town. It's a short walk into town...so we used the shuttle some and walked some. They gave us a 20% off ski rental coupon, and we were off skiing in no time. The gondola to all the ski slopes is right across the street, and you can ski to the lodge at the end of the day. The best advantage to the location is you can enjoy the village and skiing without a car rental. The ski-in and ski-out slope side accommodations have a little bit of a drive and effort to get to town, and the town is awesome. My 17 year-old boys enjoyed walking into town to eat and shop. The village is very safe. Shopping and restaurants were all great. Try Fatty's for pizza, pasta, beer and 21 tv's! And, try Daylight Dounuts for breakfast (huge portions) and great coffee. The skiing is awesome, the town delightful and the staff , shuttle drivers and stay at Mountain Thunder Lodge were perfect.

Room Tip: Building 5 #5102 is a great unit for convenience and comfort. This is a corner unit. Ground floor wi...
