We stayed here for 3 nights recently during a week-long snowboard trip. My husband and I were in a one bedroom, one bath condo in the main lodge, room 1306. It was a super cozy unit, with a great floor plan and nice location. Although it always stayed a bit warm and we slept with our window cracked, it was such a comfortable stay.

Pretty great location, 5 minute walk from Main Street, and 5 minute walk to the Gondola. I had read great things about the shuttle service, but it didn't work so well for us. Make sure to find out where they pick up when calling for a ride. Things were so close though, it didn't really matter.

The staff was very helpful and friendly, and the facilities - pool & hot tub - were good.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the front (even numbered ones, I think) get a little more noise due to people checking...

We spent three nights at Mountain Thunder Lodge in Building 5 condo #5102. This ground floor, 2-BR unit was nicely decorated, with very comfortable beds. The unit is located very near the laundry, ski lockers, pool, hot tub and shuttle. It's a very quiet building, and we will request this unit next time. The check-in was easy, and we used the free shuttle service to get around town. It's a short walk into town...so we used the shuttle some and walked some. They gave us a 20% off ski rental coupon, and we were off skiing in no time. The gondola to all the ski slopes is right across the street, and you can ski to the lodge at the end of the day. The best advantage to the location is you can enjoy the village and skiing without a car rental. The ski-in and ski-out slope side accommodations have a little bit of a drive and effort to get to town, and the town is awesome. My 17 year-old boys enjoyed walking into town to eat and shop. The village is very safe. Shopping and restaurants were all great. Try Fatty's for pizza, pasta, beer and 21 tv's! And, try Daylight Dounuts for breakfast (huge portions) and great coffee. The skiing is awesome, the town delightful and the staff , shuttle drivers and stay at Mountain Thunder Lodge were perfect.

Room Tip: Building 5 #5102 is a great unit for convenience and comfort. This is a corner unit. Ground floor wi...

My husband, two kids-ages 8 and 10, and I stayed at Mountain Thunder Lodge for a ski vacation during spring break. I don't have a single negative thing to say about this lodge. The rooms were very clean and kept up well. The furniture was clean and nice. The kitchen had everything we needed and was spotless. Housekeeping did a great job. The hot tubs and pool were very nice. We used them daily.

We could walk to the gondola that took us to Peak 8. The free hotel shuttle will take you if you want but it is less than a block away. There is an underground walkway if you don't want to cross the street. (There is no crosswalk.) The free hotel shuttle will also take you to downtown Breckenridge, but that is also within walking distance.

There are free laundry facilities on each floor. You just need to provide your own detergent. The front desk staff were friendly and courteous - we asked them for a couple of restaurant recommendations and they were great.

We would definitely stay here again.

Mountain Thunder is a great place to stay. We had a 2 bedroom 2 bath town home with a garage. The entire place is very nice. A nice perk is that the town home is cleaned daily, even your dishes! Big kitchen and living area with a back door that leads you right to the 4 o'clock run, the trail that takes you right to the gondola. You can ski right to your back porch. Then get back on and ski to the gondola, or they have a shuttle that will take you anywhere in Breck. They pick you up at your front door and drop you off wherever! Love those guys - tip 'em! You can also do the activities at their sister resorts. One Ski Hill Place is at the top of the mountain on Peak 8. So much to do there - bowling, indoor pool & hot tub for kids & adults, outdoor hot tub by a fire pit all within 100 yards of all the lifts. Great views. Stay closer to town and use all the cool amenties up there. Heated pool and 2 hot tubs really close at Mtn Thunder. Sitting on the back porch yard area was so nice. So much wildlife and peacefulness! We loved the red fox.

Room Tip: Ask for a town home not a condo. Condos have balconies only, not back porch areas.

We stayed start of Feb. It was very quiet on the slopes so a great time to go. It was not too cold either
The hotel was excellent and the staff very friendly and helpful.

The things I liked about the hotel were :

You could ski back to the hotel via the 4 o clock run
It had a heated car park with access to the room by lift which was very convenient for brining the shopping back to the room
It has a good size kitchen, with water and coffee provided free of charge each day. It has all the appliances you could want
It had a balcony & view of the mountains
A big comfortable queen size double bed
Safe in the room
Free lockers for your ski's
Maid service each day
The room was very large compared to what you get in European resorts in the Apls.

We stated in a room on 4th floor with a lovely view of mountains. It did not get any sun though. The rooms on front would have had sun, but view of the road.

We used the spa facilities at Ski One Hill Place which were excellent. They are situated at the base of Peak 8. These are wonderful outside hot tub, where you can look at the mountains & slopes, definitely worth a visit to relax those aching muscles.
The only downside was the hot hub that was the closest to our room was not working for 5 days. The staff apologised and it was fixed towards the end of our stay, but after discovering the spa at Ski One Hill Place we went there instead.

The shuttle bus would take you anywhere & was very convenient & the drivers very friendly. We used it to access peak 8 & 9.

The gondola was accessed under walkway from the back of the hotel & was just 5 mins walk away, or if you are lazy you could use the hotels courtesy shuttle bus, which is what we did !

Room Tip: We had a City Mart discount card on the keys from the rental company which save $$$ on shopping. M...

Stayed at the Thunder Mountain between 29th Feb and 9th March 2012. Primarily chose the Mountain Thunder Lodge because of the great reviews on Tripadvisor and we were not disappointed. We stayed in a two bed apartment in the the main building. The apartment was great, fully equipped kitchen, comfy beds and plenty of living space. With four people it didn't feel cramped at all. Our rooms were serviced everyday including putting on the dishwasher on so that everything was ready when we got back form the slopes.

I really can't fault this place. The location is perfect, just outside of the centre but not far away enough that you can't walk to Main Street. This also means that it is quiet at night. During the day, the lodge is a few mins walk to a Gondola up to the slopes but the lodge has a free shuttle service that we used a lot. It will take you anywhere in Breckenridge and pick you up promptly with a single phone call to reception. Really efficient transportation.

The staff at the Mountain Thunder Lodge are brilliant too. Really friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble and they made us feel very welcome throughout our 10 day stay. I would definitely recommend this place.

Summary....pros
1. Friendly and attentive staff
2. Great apartments with daily service
3. Nice location with a free shuttle around Breckenridge
4. Lovely hot tub outside.....really hot and great after a ski!!
5. Convenient ski lockers

Cons......
1. None, if your thinking about Breckenridge then I couldn't recommend the Mountain Thunder Lodge enough.........
