Nice drive, but it was snow covered for the entire length so make sure you're in 4WD if you're going late in the season...awesome views and overall great scenery

We drove Boreas Pass on a sunny, warm day in early October when the yellow and orange colors were peaking and sparkling in full contrast with the still vibrant evergreens! The views of aspen vaulted sections were stunning, the overviews of Breckenridge and then steep valleys impressive and the descent into South Park charming. The roadway is mostly gravel, some places wide and some places as narrow as one lane, has few guard rails and more cyclists, but other drivers were always aware and courteous so that we had no 'near misses' or 'scares' on our otherwise easy round trip. This is not a road to be in a hurry on but it is one of the most beautiful foliage drives we New Englanders have yet taken.

Aspens were "peaking" when we drove through. Great afternoon spent driving around and getting out to do little hikes. We drove down the pass for about 1.5 hrs before turning around. We had an SUV, and stretches of the road got a bit bumpy so if you're in a sedan or smaller vehicle, drive with caution!

The road is an old train bed that winds over an almost 11,500 foot mountain pass. The sheer drops unnerved me -- but the fall foliage distracted me enough to make it through. Definitely a must when in Breckenridge, especially in the fall.Look for weirdly tame foxes on the road.

Fall colors came a little later this year and we drove Boreas Pass the first weekend of October, from Como all the way through to Breckenridge. Whilst the colors on the south side had all finished, we saw some beautiful oranges on the Breckenridge side, mostly near to town. It was fun to drive the whole thing though for the views and the railroad relics at the top of the pass. Would love to do it again when the Como side is in full color.
