“Great Boulder location”
Reviewed January 5, 2011

Stayed at the Boulderado for CU Parents Weekend, and felt like we were in the middle of all the action. As we were walking out of the front door on Friday evening, the CU band appeared and started their Pearl St. pep rally march right there. Enjoyed Qs restaurant, which seems to have improved from our last visit a couple of years ago. We have stayed there many times while doing parent visits at CU, and for the first time we stayed in the historic wing, which was very nice, so ask for this if available. Only minus is that the Boulderado is somewhat pricey. There is a premium for location, which can make the Boulder experience all the more enjoyable, so if you want to walk everywhere from your hotel, you really have only a couple of Downtown Boulder choices, and the Boulderado is a good one.

Boulderado is a centrally located hotel in Boulder city, just a couple of blocks away from the main shopping street. It is now a little more than 100 years old and it really gives you a historic feeling. The elevator is operated by one of the people in the staff (it is old-style manual). The decor is exquisite. The only problem is that 100 years ago the hotels were built with different philosophy: wide corridors with sofas here and there, but smaller than usual rooms. The rooms are OK if you are traveling alone, but they might be a little crowded if you have kids. The rooms are very clean. The hotel has also a very good restaurant, and many more excellent restaurants are in the neighborhood.

The entire staff was friendly and attentive. The valets were exceptional at giving directions and recommendations and even remembering names! The rooms were very clean and spacious. We stayed in the newer section but spent a lot of time in the historical area which added to the experience. The Corner Bar was a perfect spot to meet friends and family before dinner and to sit and relax after a day of playing. The hotel is within walking distance to everything. We had a birthday celebration at Q's which was delicious. Perfect!!

I liked how this old hotel added on extensions but kept the same Victorian motif. And the staff were very friendly and helpful and room service was quick, although no extras on the tray (eg, entrees without roll, coffee without cream unless you specifically asked for it). Room was comfy and quiet until I noticed the buzzing tone or quiet whine of the fire alarm (or whatever it was). I complained at the front desk and they sent someone up to change the device but there was still this low level buzz. I was able to sleep due to exhaustion but noises like that are aggravating. Maybe it was the fridge?

I have mixed feelings about Boulderado. I have heard a lot about its splendor and style. It has a great location in the heart of Boulder. Hotel is huge and very, very old. Lobby is grand and gives you a feeling of an old western movie. Staff is helpful and there is one old elevator with a person inside who operates it - unique. First impression - good. Price for the room was very expensive, thus, expectations were high. Then I got to my room. Small, with small bed, and very dark. Furniture was old and so were the amenities. Not classy old but rather shabby old. Room had a cold, dark, boring look and the bed wasn't comfortable. I expected beautiful room with style I got a basic place to sleep, which needed a lot of updating. Disappointing. For that price I don't think I would stay there again.

Friends and family gathered from around the world for a much anticipated wedding in Boulder. The Hotel Boulderado staff and the accommodations made everyone feel very welcome. We had two special guests with physical disabilities that presented a challenge to the hotel staff, but they handled our issues of mobility with care and kindness. The staff had to locate and loan us a wheelchair, assist with getting these two guests up to their rooms and out to the wedding events, and attend to many other issues that come up for people with disabilities. Yet staff members were always helpful, pleasant and responsive. This let us focus on the joy of the wedding and being with each other!

The Boulderado is an old historic hotel in a great spot in the middle of Boulder. It is however very dated and the rooms remind me of larger versions of a fifteen year old Marriott Courtyard in much need of updating. The finish out is bare minimum and of low quality. The staff however are extremely helpful and friendly. The lobby is more updated and the restaurant bar scene is great. We did not get to check out the competing hotel in town (Julian) but I would recommend researching it before booking the Boulderado. It would have been a great spot for $100 per night but we were paying $190 for the kids' room and $230 for our king room. It was around $1,000 for two nights - about double what it was worth. We didn't spend much more than that the previous summer staying at the Broadmoor in CO Springs - night and day difference in quality.
