“Very nice historic hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2014 via mobile

Centrally located downtown. Would stay here again. Staff were particularly helpful and pleasant. They are doing renos currently which will like only make it better. Rooms were well appointed and clean. They were also bike friendly and did not mind me tramping my bike back and forth to my room.

Stayed July 2014

Thank you for leaving us such a positive review, Eric! I'm delighted to see you'd stay with us again, despite the fact that you stayed with us during a historic renovation on our roof. We hope to see you (and your bike!) back at the Boulderado again in the future.

This is THE place to stay when you are visiting Boulder. Historic from the point of being around since 1909. Absolutely gorgeous. From today's viewpoint, right in the middle of the action. BTW, the BEST Bloody Mary, anywhere. Seriously should enter a nationwide competition. Within steps of everything you would want to do or see in Boulder. Quite simply, fantastic.

Room Tip: If you are looking for a good ghost story, look online and choose the room thats supposedly haunted.

The Hotel Boulderado is one of a kind. As others have commented, it was more expensive than the chain hotels, but I don't know if the location of the less expensive hotels is as convenient. The location is excellent within walking distance of just about everything. The furnishings are all designed to maintain the historic look, but luckily the bathrooms and other fixtures are modern. There is good wifi and TV. Although breakfast is at additional cost, it was moderately priced, and it was excellent, as good as any breakfast we've had anywhere. The air conditioning in our room had a very strong and loud fan. We didn't want it going on and off all night (which tends to wake us up), so we switched it from Auto to On. It blew loudly all night but didn't keep us awake or wake us up. The valet parking was quick and convenient (for an extra $10), and all the staff were very helpful and polite at all times.

Booked two rooms in the newer annex, one with two queens and the other a king. Both were roomy and comfortable with decor in keeping with the original hotel. Staying in the annex requires a short "skywalk" from the main lobby, not a problem for us but could be for others. Rooms were quiet with all the amenities working well. Historic part of the hotel is very appealing with an interesting history. Location is excellent -- just a block off Pearl Street, so this is what primarily you are paying for. Concierge and valet parking staff were all excellent.

The staff was generally polite and ready to help. The building is historic and therefore really old and you can see the age! It contains lots of wood and is dark inside. The rooms are ok but for the high price not really great. The one I stayed needed a renovation or remodeling (especially the bathroom). The restaurant is on the first floor and the service was not very good not polite.

Room Tip: upper floor rooms are better but cost more!

Thanks for letting us know how your recent stay was! I loved seeing the comment about the polite and helpful staff members, but wanted to let you know that the room rates do not vary based on what floor they are on. We have a mix of six different room types, each with their own rate, and they are interspersed throughout both sections of the hotel and all the levels. I also wanted to let you know I will pass on your comments regarding the restaurant staff on to the proper manager.

The hotel's history is interesting. The location and nearly all staff were wonderful. Photos on website do not accurately depict what you will get - expect much much less. Considering what other comparable options are available in the same area of Boulder, the Hotel Boulderado seemed way over-priced. While the bed was very comfortable, the chairs were not. Might be wise to request a room which faces a street (noise?) rather than an unsightly alley. Expectations and disappointments - we were very disappointed. Wish we could rate higher, however we think this is a fair assessment.

Thanks for letting us know about your recent stay! I'm so pleased you enjoyed the location of the hotel as well as our staff, but not so pleased that we missed the mark on your expectations. We hope to have the opportunity to "wow" you in the future if we earn the chance to have you as our guest again.

Just spent a night at the hotel with my fiancee to celebrate our engagement. The historic section looked gorgeous on the inside and we were met by a very friendly staff. I had reserved a "Boulderado King" room, and was given the key to a room in the non-historic portion of the hotel. Now, I realize that a lot of what is being paid for is the location of the hotel... but seriously. Upon entering the room, I was met with your standard size motel room, with a standard issue motel bathroom, and an antique desk thrown in one corner of the bedroom, I guess to make it seem more historic. I have stayed in much nicer rooms for less than 1/4 of the price.

I returned to the front desk to explain my disappointment and the staff was very helpful, even offering an upgrade to a "Classic King" room. This was a much larger room, and had a balcony as well, which was nice. But again, the bathroom was the same motel quality (but larger, with a bidet thrown in this time!), the balcony had pieces of siding falling off (may have been related to a roofing project, but didn't look like it), but at least with this room, there were more antique pieces of furniture in place to make it feel historic.

Maybe if you end up with a room in the actual historic side of the hotel it's a different experience; it certainly looked amazing in the lobby area. Again, the staff were very accommodating and extremely friendly. However, even with the room upgrade, I would have a hard time justifying the cost of the hotel or recommending it to anyone.

Eric, thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience with us. We apologize if the original Boulderado King room missed the mark for you, but I'm happy to see we were able to upgrade you to one of our Classic King rooms with more original antique furniture. We hope we have the opportunity to have you stay with us again in the future, and congratulations to you and your fiancee!
