Owner description: The Colorado Shakespeare Festival is a professional theatre company in association with the University of Colorado Boulder. Since 1958 the festival has celebrated and explored Shakespeare and his continuing influence and vitality through productions of superior artistic quality, education and community engagement. CSF strives to preserve the classics of the past and pursue the classics of the future. Fueled by artistry and scholarship, the festival seeks to expand the cultural richness of the region by inspiring, challenging, and cultivating the imagination of audiences and artists. Plays are performed beneath summer night skies in the historic Mary Rippon Outdoor Theatre and in the newly renovated indoor University Theatre.

The annual summer Colorado Shakespeare Festival features professional actors in a variety of plays. While most plays are in the outdoor theater, there are now more "non-Shakespeare" or "Shakespeare related" shows also in the indoor theater. For example, this coming summer two Shakespeare plays will be in the park, then there are two non-Shakespeare plays and a related show. Generally, all are high caliber. If you go to previews, as said above, you can get reduced fees, but that is in late June/early July. Good to bring your own stadium seating chair for benches in the park and best to sit as close as possible since in high winds sound can be a problem in the rear. (Indoor seats are all good.) They cancel if there are severe rains, but that doesn't usually happen too often. (Last summer was especially rainy so I did get a show rescheduled. That was fine for me but if you were visiting for a limited amount of time I'm not sure if they would refund your money.) Before performances, you can order picnics and have dinner in the park.

Great festival. We went on the 'preview' night, where the tix are half price. We saw 'a midsummer night's dream' in the outdoor theater. They even provided comfortable seats. I would only recommend that you bring a blanket! the nights get very cool! Also, they allow you to bring food or buy from their concession stand. It would be great to picnic beforehand like so many others did.
