Food is good, however it is low end Mexican fare. Don’t expect much beyond the basics. Prices are very low, two people with a beer each for $20. Service is a bit haphazard.

I really like this place. Everything is delicious, hot and fresh. Their green chili is really something. If you like it hot, this is the place. This place isn't fancy, we go for the food, not the surroundings. If you're going for lunch, get there by 11:30. Otherwise, expect to wait. They have a very loyal following.

Had a great lunch here last week. They don't take reservations, which is a bit problematic when you have a group (which we did) but the food was excellent as was the service. I had the chicken fajitas which were fabulous. Several people at our table had the green chile and love it.

The ambiance is a typical Mexican restaurant.

Great prices for great food.

Well worth a repeat visit!

My wife and I have been here several times since we moved here over a year ago, and it is on our short list of restaurants that we frequent routinely in Boulder. The food is so cheap that it makes you feel guilty. The trick to Efrain's is knowing how to get the spice level right. The chile verde is outstanding, but is very hot (Efrain's rates it as a 10 on their scale of 1 to 10). Hot is relative, but my wife and I are from the south and are used to Louisiana Cajun hot. Unfortunately, most of the other dishes are way to mild. It took a few visits, but we finally figured out that we could ask to get chile verde mixed into the other dishes (or served on the side) to pump up the spice level to the 6-7 range. We have never had a bad experience.

Efrain's is reknowned far and wide. It is small, with probably only twenty tables, and it is always full because the food is that good. You can expect a line at lunch and dinner, so go early or during the between-meals lull. The staff seems to be either family or long-time employed, and they are glad to see you and happy to talk about their legendary fare. This is the best we have found in Boulder, but we are used to Casa Blanca in Leadville, which can never be replaced.
