Friends recommended the Flagstaff House in Boulder as the place to impress our friends from the New Jersey coming to our wonderful Colorado for the first time - and what can I say?
Everything but really everything was up to our (very high) expectations. Awesome location with a breathtaking view over Boulder. Very friendly welcome, excellent service, food was excellent, the wine selection gigantic and the choice we made (Pinot Noir from WA.) was simply perfect.
Definetely one of the top restaurants in the state!
Next timewe'll make sure at reservation that they book a "front row table" for us so we can enjoy the scenic view even more!

Last night's dinner was special, and I say that having been to the Flagstaff House many times over several decades.

Praise for:
* good service that provided without intruding,
* an awesome wine steward who steered us to a great bottle I wouldn't have picked myself,
* inventive food -- especially the cauliflower custard with (sea salt?) caramel topping and the foie gras with sweetbread torchon,
* excellent plating that was so attractive one admired before devouring.

Add the setting of watching the sunset ringing its changes to the sky and the brightening of the town lights in Boulder below.

I have only been to Flagstaff house 3 times, but those 3 meals were in my top 10 meals of all time. Great location, incredible views, impeccable service, exquisite food. I just wish I could afford to eat here more often, but it is worth every penny!!!

This has been a family and business favorite for over twenty years. Historically, everything is always perfect, so I hope this was just a bad night. The veal osso bucco was absolutely terrible. The reason was the chef was trying to be cute; the bone marrow was to be sampled and savored and had a separate fork inserted to allow that. Except for the marrow, the remainder of the dish was unacceptable... dry, tough, and flavorless. Usually the cooking method presumes a basically tough piece requiring care in preparation where the marrow enhances the meat. It did not.

Granddaughter's birthday lobster was strangely prepared and average at best. Wife's selection of duck went from exceptional to average. The food this time was not up to usual par.

As always, the service was impeccable. Will I try it again? Of course, hoping this was just an off night.

Just terrific. Very expensive, but for the right occasion, worth the splurge.

The food is simply excellent. The menu is extensive; it was hard to make a choice. Everything that came out of the kitchen was perfectly prepared and presented.

The view is magical. The view in Boulder is just great from anywhere... that beautiful town/university nesteled against the Flatirons; there is no more beautiful setting. But climb a little way up one of those mountains, and you find Flagstaff House. At night you look down, not up at the mountains, but down' at the twinkling lights of Boulder. Breathtaking.

This is THE special occasion dinner place for me in Boulder.
