I come to Boulder often but hadn't been to Jax for a few years. My memories were of excellent food but packed in noisy crowds. But on this visit the noise level was subdued, the restaurant full but not raucous and the staff was pleasant. The food was as good as ever. I had the classic Gumbo with a Wedge Salad. The Gumbo was perfect and the wedge of iceberg lettuce with ranch dressing was a great foil to the spicy soup. Rather than an entrée I had the Crabcake and Poké appetizers. The Crabcake was excellent - all lump crabmeat that appeared to be pan sautéed. The Poké, which I ate a lot of in Hawaii last summer and which is raw tuna in a mayo sauce with seaweed and scallion, was served over a useless cake of rice with soy sauce. Nonetheless, it was a wonderful meal in a great setting.
