CU was the original land grant college in Colorado-founded in the 1880's with a few buildings from that era remaining. If you want to stroll, start on the south west side and see the first Women's Dormitory- now home to Women and Gender Studies, Old Main, Woodbury, Geography and Mackey Auditorium. Buildings get newer as you go north and east. There are former dorms from the 30's, the University Memorial Center from the late 40's, and the University Museum which is definitely worth a visit. There are more classroom buildings surrounding the Norlin Quadrangle from the 20's and 30's. Lots of builings from the last 20 years are stuck in between the older buildings but all are related to the Italian Hill country style established for the campus in the 20's. At the eastern edge of the main campus you'll find Folsom Field (the big ugly mentioned above) and across the street the Gamow Physics Tower/Duane Physics Building with a Foucault Pendulum hanging twelve stories from the top of the Tower. The Physics Department is home to four Nobel prize winners as of 2012.

My son is a Freshman at CU..I can understand why he picked such a Magnificent place to spend his next four years..as it has one of the most beautiful views I have ever seen. The campus is Very clean & although enormous..very orderly.
The kids are very respectful..the dorms are old & out dated..but you are not staying at a 5 star resort..it is to be expected..Food halls are that of an upscale Mall..to many choices for me..great for our kids..they will not have to eat the same thing twice..
