“Fun for the family”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 27, 2013

This was a good 2 hour visit with the family. Very educational and informative but some of the exhibits were broken and out of service. We enjoyed the travelling photo exhibits.

“Interesting Architecture and Grounds ...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 9, 2013

Go for the Architecture, the story behind it, and the grounds ... the exhibits are second fiddle. The egos involved in building this place still echo in the walls and on the grounds ...

“Very good if you're interested in science and climate”

but not all visitors are. Well thought out and interactive exhibits. Spend an hour to leisurely take it all in.

“Stunning drive and view”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 6, 2013

I live near NCAR and am glad for its scientific significance, but to me, the beauty of its location is almost unsurpassed. The slow drive ( or bike ride) up and down from the city of Boulder, provides those lucky enough to do it, a south view of the famous Flatiron rock formations that rivals anything you will ever see. We always take visiting family and friends to the typical tourist destinations, but this is the place that "wows" and captures the spirit of the American West, there is a small circular, easy trail on the north side of the building which explains the weather aspect of the area....and then there are the trails going both north and south connecting to the system. The maps and detailed information about hiking in this area can be found on numerous sites, including the city and county websites. NCAR features a constantly changing art gallery in its employee cafeteria....which happens to be a great place to eat. You can't lose by driving up the hill to NCAR...truly magnificent.

“Science and a hike in one!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 26, 2013

NCAR has a fabulous hands-on "museum" type display that is great for all ages. My kids can't wait to go back to explore more and learn about weather and science! Behind the building you can get on a trail that leads to another system of trails along the foothills. Prepare yourself with water, snacks, weather gear (for changing weather which is common), sunscreen and any other typical gear you bring for a long hike. Bathrooms available only if NCAR is open for visitors.
