“Tasty pizzas; but the service can be dire if you get the wrong server. Skip if you have less than one hour.”

I have very mixed views about this restaurant. I have enjoyed good lunches where the food was good, the service was fine and my guests and I were happy. On the other hand my dinner last night had me stand up and be on the verge of walking out three times because the service was SO slow and appalling.

If time is not a problem, then this restaurant may work for you. The pizza is thin crust and flavorful. The wood fire gives the right flavor and consistency and makes the most of good ingredients. It ought to be good because they charge $13-17 for a pizza big enough for two modestly hungry people.

Sides and starters are often good, though aggressively priced - $6 for wood-fired sugar snaps, for example. The beer sounds well priced at $3 for draft beer till you see the miniscule glass: who knew you could buy such small beer glasses?

It probably works out around $25 per person before drinks, tax and tip. Figure $35-$39/person all in? Maybe less for some diners. It's debatable whether it's worth that price. This is a pizza restaurant, not haute cuisine. The same cost would buy a far superior meal at Brasserie Ten Ten for example.

Parking is often difficult as there are not enough spaces outside the restaurant, which is in a small retail strip.

Assuming you can park and are OK with the pricing, then the question becomes whether you have time. Last night it took 10 minutes to get the mini beer to the table (they were not busy at the time); two reminders and 23 minutes to get the sugar snaps to the table (they were not busy at the time); 25 minutes to get a polenta appetizer to the table - and it was cold when it arrived; 45 minutes from order to the table for the pizza. Not a good night !

OK: let's be fair - this was mostly down to one very incompetent server. But the manager knew there was a problem and took too long to try to rescue the situation. And the owner was lounging around the entrance, paying no attention to anything at all in the restaurant, but just looking like a customer waiting for his friends to join him. So a dose of good management could perhaps rescue this restaurant from its worst aspects. i'm not holding my breath.

This restaurant is in a shopping center but don't let that fool you into missing the place. The pizza is very good as are the salads, and they have nightly wine specials that are good and reasonable. Give it a try. You won't be disappointed (I hope).

Ordered five pizzas for our group since they are only one size at 12". Is there a problem offering guests a large pie option? Something magical about 12"? We enjoyed the pies but for $15-$18 each they were not that good. Definitely nice, fresh thin crust and ingredients, just too pricey. The food cost must be on the order of 10%, which is a bid greedy, in my view.

my son and I, during the school holidays, couldn't get enough of their pizza. over one week we went 4 times. this is a small cozy, understated place, nothing fancy, with a brick oven. we've only had the pizza margarhita. we love pizza, we make excellent pizza at home too. this is the best crust i've had in boulder (like "the med", but even a little better), and possibly the u.s., and maybe even anywhere. the dough is chewy, thin, perfectly crisp. the toppings, at least on the margarita pizza, were simple and excellent. service is fast.

Boulder has great pizza places but Lupo beats them all. Best place for wood burning pizza.
