The restaurant isn't located in the best spot, but once you get inside its as if you were in a swanky place. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with a fireplace. Although it was a busy night, they had booths that made it seem like there wasn't many people around you. We, of course, ordered the chips and guacamole to start. They make the guacamole at your table. Can't get any fresher than that. We shared the big platter of food that feeds 3-4 people. There were 4 of us, including 2 big guys, and let me tell you there was still food left over! its huge! We also drank margaritas! delicious but a bit pricey.

We were staying nearby and wanted something Mexican. Agave really delivered!
The restaurant is located in the elbow of an unassuming strip mall, but the interior is sleek and contemporary, with a lovely fireplace and intricate carved screens for the balcony.

The menu is mainly Mexican - no chips and salsa to start - but very interesting options. Two of our group chose the Agave enchiladas - cheese with anancho chili, Our 11-year old chose the grilled salmon over spaghetti squash, and I went for the Agave vegetarian tamales.

The enchilada sauce was robust and spicy, very good. The salmon was served atop an amazingly crispy bed of spaghetti squash with a silly pyramid side of rice. The salmon was very good, but spouse thought that it could have been removed maybe 45 seconds sooner from the grill.

However, the tamales were the outstanding order of the night - deliciously moist and not overly encased in masa. Totally excellent.

Prices are reasonable, although the special molcajetes seem a little pricey. Overall, a great experience!

our family thoruoughly enjoys agave. The margeritas are made fresh with a tantilizing assortment of high end and speciallty tequilas. No mixes here just tequila, lime and heaven. They have a wonderful selection of plates from traditional mexian fare such as the cactus, home made corn tortillas and home made corn chips, tamales and chorizo sausage. If you are watching gluten a large portion of their menu is gluten free (even the chips) wich they make is a dedicated corn only fryer. All the sauces are made fresh at the site and none contain gluten either. The price is extrrodinary concidering the fresh ingredients high quality and exceptional service. Our kids (13 and 10) love the food and the presentations which are well done. Absolutely fabulous dining and don't forget to get the sizziling bowls of cactus they are to die for.

Four things to love about Agave: First, order any of their wonderful margaritas and complement it with the guacamole, made table-side in the fashion of New York's famous Rosa Mexicano restaurants. Then, try one of the several dishes served in a hot molcajete, an unusual presentation that is as delicious as it is enchanting. Fourth (is that four?), sit back and enjoy the pampering service and warm atmosphere! The restaurant is tucked away in a Boulder strip mall on 28th, behind a somewhat intimidating corner entrance hidden by potted plants. But don't be deceived; the joyous bistro is fun and worthwhile.

I have eaten at Agave many times and I have never been disappointed. They have many of the usual entrees you expect to find at a Mexican Restaurant and then some really unique dishes I haven't seen anywhere else. They have a special dish called "Molcajete" which is your choice of meat, seafood, vegetables or a combination thereof served in a hot bowl that appears to be carved out of volcanic rock. You'll find a few surprises in the Molcajete such as cactus, scallions, chunks of cheese, chile peppers all simmering in a bubbling green chile kept hot by this special bowl. I also love their steak, the ribeye, it's huge and plenty of food for 2 people. I have had most everything on their menu: tacos, fajitas, fish, it's all good. Oh yes, the mashed potatoes smothered in green chile are great on a cold day. There is a huge variety of tequila. If you go on a night when there is a band, usually Friday, it's crowded and you have to wait for a table. Most other nights you'll get seated right away.
