We enjoyed hiking the mountain and seeing the view. It was good climbing weather and we had a clear view.

But I should point out that it's curvy, the speed limit is 20, and the road is infested with bicyclists and no bike lane. Parking costs for non-county residents.

Flagstaff Mountain is the crown jewel of the Boulder Mountain Parks system. It overlooks the city and the Boulder Valley. The road to the top is excellent, easy to drive, and offers stunning views. I've been going up Flagstaff since I was a child -- 60 years ago -- and I never get tired of it. The beautiful Sunrise Amphitheatre (popular for weddings and other events) was completely renovated a few years ago and is now ADA compliant.

We took first timers to Colorado here. They were in awe! Views of the high mountains AND the plains, right on the edge of Boulder.
Many places to pull off (permit required for non-residents); a great place to go after NCAR...keep driving and go to Gross Reservoir, Nederland, etc.

This is a very scenic drive. It isn't for those who don't like driving on mountain roads, of course, but it isn't that long. The views are worth it. Watch out for bikes grinding up and tearing down! Take in the view, and then to eat dinner don't bother with the Flagstaff House - there are better places in town - unless you like overrated, pretentious restaurants with 50's decor.
