I attended a wedding in the glorious newly refurbished chapel - it was hard to concentrate on the service surrounded by such magnificent art works. I had strolled through the grounds on my way, and told myself to return again. There were wonderful art exhibits, gardens, a bakery, performances, stalls - and so much more. The gardens were amazing. The reception was held in one of the halls, with a courtyard (pre dinner drinks venue) and the catering was excellent. When I read more (online) about this remarkable place just 4 kms from the city centre, one can see that it is a place to return again and again. There's so much happening there.

Walked from the Fairfield Boathouse to the Convent en route to the city. The walk from the Boathouse to the convent is just over 3km and is a pleasant walk through bush land along the river via the Main Yarra Trail. On arriving at the convent it was the 4th Saturday of the month market which was occupied by several smallholders with gorgeous produce. I would suggest bringing a jeep to carry produce back to your car. As we were in the first part of a very long walk we did not buy heavy objects but the bags off oranges, potatoes etc were ver appealing. Had coffee and hot chocolate , purchased at the Japanese restaurant. Purchased the best value sausage roll from the bakery. The convent was full of people enjoying the market, having brekky/brunch and looking around the market. A great vibe. It was good walking into theConvent as it is a tricky place to get a park. There is a car park opposite but it is generally full pretty quickly so I would suggest parking at the Boathouse and enjoying the walk. After enjoying the convent you can continue the walk via the Collingwood Children's Farm which is another oasis in Melbourne. Entry to the convent is by donation.

Wow, where do I start? Whether you fancy a walk around the serene gardens, a coffee and freshly baked bread, a shop around one of the many visiting markets, a browse in the art gallery or craft workshops, a treatment from one of the holistic therapists resident there, sushi, a moonlight movie during summer, music, not-for-profit nosh at Lentil as Anything....the list goes on. It is such a bustling community hub and undoubtedly my absolute favourite place to go in Melbourne.

An amazing oasis just outside Melbourne CBD on the banks of the Yarra river. Thriving village of artisans and creative small businesses operating within the grounds of a revived and saved convent. The large garden is kept as it would have been many years ago, absolutely stunning. On differing days there are markets and music, always great fresh food. Lentil as Anything was very unexpected, pay what you think is appropriate for nice vego meal, amazing! A place to take some well earned time out, lay under a tree, have a wine or check out the entire site. There is a great web site to check out what's happening, we can only say we enjoyed our afternoon thoroughly. Collingwood children's farm just down the lane.
