Abbotsford convent is a special place well worth a visit. It's an eclectic mix of art studios, arts businesses, cafes, bars, a radio station etc. there are regular farmers/makers markets so be sure to check the website to find out what's on.

“Just a nice place to be”
Reviewed December 15, 2012

The old convent has spaces it leases to artists and artisans, so apart from painters, writers, art therapists, photographers, musicians, potters, furniture designers, jewellers, fabric designers and whatnot, there are also a bakery, a Steiner school, a city farm, and a couple of cafes and bars. It's kind of a creative and peaceful oasis near the city. Really quite wonderful. Take the train to Collingwood and walk the mile or so there through the suburb, which is actually very picturesque as well.
