Highlands Slopeside
Reviewed February 25, 2014

Our ski group occupied a number of these condos. We found that while they had similarities, each condo was uniquely laid out. Condo entrances are on the 2nd and 5th floors. For the even-numbered rooms on the second floor, you enter on the top floor of the 3BR townhome. You may have 1 or 2 bedrooms on this level. The main living area and the kitchen are on the ground floor, along the other bedroom(s). The great thing about these condos is that you literally step off the back porch, step over a small dip in the terrain and then you're on the slopes and it's a short run to the base of the Centennial chair and the main resort base. Doesn't get much better than that! Each of these condos has its own ski locker in the room.

For the odd-numbered condos with entrances on the second floor, the layout is reversed. A bedroom or two on the entrance level then take the stairs up to the main living area and remaining bedroom(s) on the 3rd floor. Condos on the fifth floor have a bedroom or two on the entrance level then a staircase down to the main living area with the other bedroom(s). These condos have huge 2-story windows which provide awesome views, whether you face the slopes/mountain or the other way.

If you're not in an even-numbered 2nd floor unit, your condo will have a ski locker in the common area on the 1st floor, from which you can step out on to the slopes.

Our unit, 218, had the master BR on the top floor with a large tub and separate shower. Out on the landing, there was also a half-bath. Downstairs were two bedrooms, one with twins and one with a king bed. Each had its own full bath. In both of these bathrooms you could close a door between the sink area and the toilet/shower area so that using one section didn't preclude another person from using the other section.

We also had a small den area with an L-shaped couch, great for a reading nook or a nap. The kitchen had lots of storage space and was fairly well stocked, though that will vary from condo to condo. The kitchen overlooked the living/dining areas and had several bar stools at the counter.

Our unit had flat screen HD TVs in each bedroom and a large one in the living room. Our dining table would seat eight. Each condo had its own wi-fi network that worked well for us.

There is an indoor hot tub, though it's down on the first floor and then you take stairs down from there. For whatever reason, it produced lots of soapy bubbles whenever the jets were running. The waterline could also have used a good scrubbing. But the temperature was usually correct and it felt good on sore ski muscles.

If you want to go back via the shortest route to the Highland Lodge (where the front desk is located) you do have to walk across and up a small ski trail. If it's snowed heavily and the grooming machine hasn't come through, that could be deep snow, so pack your boots accordingly.

The Dial-A-Ride bus does come to the front door, but only on request, whereas it makes a regular stop at Highlands Lodge. However they were terrific with our group, transporting all of us out to dinner each night.

All in all we had a great time and I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: If you're a skier, try to get an even-numbered room on the second floor for direct-to-slope acce...

We have stayed at Highlands Slopeside on 3 occasions and have never been disappointed. The property offers true ski in/ski out and great views of the slopes. The location of the property means that you can enjoy your time on the slopes and then simply ski back to your front door when your want a break or are finished for the day. Access to the village is a 5 min walk down the hill and a 5 min shuttle ride back up. The in village transport system is fantastic as mentioned by others. The condos are large and well laid out and always well maintained.

Perfect location. Kids literally skied into our apartment. Not great decoration but very cozy, with daily clean up services. We also used concierge who did a great job to help us have a great vacation. If you plan to go to Beaver Creek, I strongly recommend.

We really loved this property. From what we saw there are many beautiful properties in BC. Some are ski in and some are ski out, but it seemed that very few were both. Highlands Slopeside is both, which was exactly what we wanted.

Our unit spanned the width of the building so we had both courtyard views and views of the slopes. One night we were even treated to a view of the fireworks right from our sofa. The unit had everything we needed and was beautifully appointed (a subzero fridge/ two large jetted bath tubs, woodburning fireplace). The ski access was so convienent, that we often returned to the condo for lunch. The kitchen was set up nicely and we ate dinner in several nights.

The property has a wonderful ski room, with lockers for skis, a huge air pumped boot drying rack and direct access to the slopes. It also shares a heated outdoor pool and several outdoor hot tubs with the nearby Highlands Lodge (you have to walk about 100 feet to get there, so wear your arctic boots and change in the nicely appointed Highlands Lodge locker room).

Almost all properties in BC offer shuttle service around the resort and are beautifully maintained. So work with the BC reservationist to pick a property based on what's most important to you.

We got exactly what we requested.

We stayed at Highlands Slopeside for a ski holiday. We are a family of three (daughter 13 years) and found the apartment to be perfect. It was a 3bd apartment but staff closed up the bedrooms that was not required. Bathrooms, kitchen, living rooms with lovely fireplace made and great snow made the week's long stay there a wonderful experience. The ski in - ski out was fantastic, we could literally ski right into the dining room, not that we did! Although the apartment is up a hill and a bit of hike to walk home after dinner in the cold the services at Beaver Creek were fantastic. Free shuttle buses (Dial-a-ride) comes and picks you up at the door and drops you home. We cooked for two nights and brought our groceries for dinner and breakfasts at Avon - free shuttle there as well from Beaver Creek. We organised our ski hire from home before we left from Butler's website and they delivered our skis and poles at the arranged time. Great service! The altitude knocked us around for 1-2 days. Drink lots of water and the occasional hot chocolate to give yourself the sugar kick. Overall we had a fantastic time staying at Highlands Slopeside Beaver Creek. We stayed in number 200. Excellent apartment.

We stayed 9 days over the Octoberfest. It was great fun! We were a group with 7 golfers and we played alot of golf in the area.
The appartments are very cosy and well decorated, with all you need, Wood for a fire , everything in the kitchen , d.v.d player etc....
I was fasinated with all the wildlife. We saw Elks , deer and a couple of bears.
We had several meals at the Chop house which were fantastic, the best steak i have had in a long time.
I can definatly recommend these apparments, they are conviniant (5 min walk up the road) , clean , nice pool & jacuzzi.

We stayed a week during ski season in a 3-bedroom/3 bath unit at Highlands Slopeside and loved it. It was elegantly decorated with comfortable furniture and beautiful gourmet kitchen. The hot-tubs were consistently clean and properly heated. We enjoyed the convenient ski room and ski-in/out location. The village is downhill from the units, so worth noting is that a steep uphill climb home is required after nightly visits into the village. Not recommended is dinner at Beano's cabin.
