If you rent a room by the river, you will not be disturbed. You can watch the magic of a small mountain town and feel safe and secure. Really enjoyed it

We stayed at the Aspenalt Lodge for 6 nights in early May while visiting family in Basalt. We chose this lodge due to it's proximity to our family's home which we were visiting. We were greeted by the loveliest folks ever, Chris & Anetta; check - in was a breeze. Once in our room, we found it immaculate, very clean and very comfy, it was a an added bonus to have a room facing the river! The hot tub was incredible!!
A continental breakfast was available every morning. Chris had suggested several places to see and we were very pleased with his suggestions.
We couldn't have asked for a better get away. This place is very relaxing and service is by far better and friendlier than we've experienced in a long time.
We will definitely come back again next year!! Thank you C. & A.!!

The rate was good, although the Inn at Aspen was the same. The gal at the counter is the problem, and needs to be fired. Surly attitude when we checked in, and 20-minutes late opening when we wanted to check out. If you are on a schedule, or like good service, avoid the Aspenalt.

I arrived at about 9:30 pm to meet a surly host who wanted to close up the office. She had already prepared keys for late pickup, but opened the door anyway and let me know her displeasure.

The location of the room (#112) was good, near the hot tub and the river.

The room had 2 beds, frig and microwave. It seemed clean. The TV didn't work.

The breakfast was the usual dry cereal and packaged pastries. There was fresh fruit and orange juice available that we enjoyed.

Basalt itself is a brilliant alternative to exorbitant Aspen, just as pretty, with groovy bars and restaurants, and an easy drive even in winter to all the worldclass ski resorts. The Aspenalt is located right in the centre of town, conveniently opposite the supermarket, and the riverside rooms are right on the beautiful river. Breakfast is quite plentiful and varied. Rooms are typical size, a bit of a squash with 2 adults, 2 kids and all the ski gear, but adequate. The main complaint was the frigid attitude of the eastern european girls who worked in reception - ICY. A good match for the January temperatures outside. Couldn't get a smile out of any of them, the whole 5 days we stayed there. Amazing how much this lack of warmth affects the whole mood of the place, which really should be buzzing in such an amazingly beautiful setting.

The previous two nights we stayed at the 8 month new Americ-Inn in Glenwood Springs for two nights and had a gorgeous three room suite with fireplace for $154 tax included. (negotiated price) When we were told it would be $128 at the Aspenalt for a simple "motel room," I flinched a little but, since we had been there before and enjoyed it, we did it again. The room was average, but it was clean and had decent beds. However, when you can look out your door and window and see and hear the Frying Pan River going by, it more than makes up for any shortcomings the room may have. We sat on benches right next to the river and it was extremely peaceful and relaxing. Make sure you get a room that faces the river.

Next door was "The Riverside Grill" which was a fun place with good food. They had both inside and deck overlooking- the- river seating.

A jumpstart continental breakfast was included.

We will stay there again.

I spent a wonderful week (2/6/08 - 2/13/08) in Room 109 overlooking the Frying Pan River. The room was spacious, the beds were very comfortable, the bathroom was large and well lit. I slept like a baby

Also, the daily service was impeccable and the management was immediately responsive to any question or concern that I had. The free breakfast area was convenient, cozy, well-stocked, and lively with US and International skiiers every morning.

The village of Basalt is a charming venue with everything that one will need and at about 1/5 the cost of comparable goods and services in Aspen. It's 12 miles to Snowmass and 16 miles to Ajax, Buttermilk, and the Highlands. There is a shuttle that runs from a stop steps away from the lodge. It is $4 one way and free for Seniors and children. Eight bucks a day is a lot better than $ 12 a day to park and/or $4/gallon for gas

The Aspenalt is a bargain and a great place to stay !!
