We stayed one night at the Comfort Inn in Yreka to break up a long drive from northern California. It’s a decent but very basic hotel.
Tucked back behind a gas station and next to a couple of fast-food establishments, it’s a little difficult to get to. The parking lot is small and could be tough to negotiate in bad weather.
As others have said, the staff is great. JD, the gentleman on duty when we checked in, deserves special mention.
This hotel does not have an elevator; stairs are the only means of getting to the second and third floors.
Guest rooms are clean and well maintained but, except for the flat-screen TV and the wireless Internet access, you’d think you’d stepped through a time warp and landed in the 1970s.
The breakfast area in the front lobby was about the smallest I’d ever seen and, although we got there about 15 minutes before the scheduled end of service, the food had all been eaten by the other guests and there was no more on the way. Not that we stayed there for the cuisine but breakfast was supposed to be included in the price.
For such austere accommodations, the $89 nightly rate seemed a bit high but given the lack of options in the area, it may not be. While it wasn’t bad, I will look at other hotels in the area next time.
