“One and Done...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 15, 2013

I haven't ever encountered a restaurant offering one item on the dinner menu nightly, but if anyone can pull it off, it's Ad Hoc...
We dined there on a Wednesday night when the entree was Skirt Steak. Simply delicious. We also shared a fettucini pasta as an intermezzo course. Everything is family style and wonderful. I happened to ask our server what happens when a diner is a vegan or vegetarian. Accommodations are available...
The wait staff couldn't be nicer!...And the interior is simple and beautiful

“Disappointing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2013 via mobile

My husband and I were looking for a quick, inexpensive bite in Yountville - not easy to find! We discovered Addendum behind Ad Hoc - a little picnic area where you get a piece of fried chicken with some sides for $5. The chicken was good, but everything else was inedible. Poorly cooked greens, some big, undercooked pieces of Romanesco - we would have done better at a McDonalds. What a disappointment! The corn bread was pretty good. We thought it would be a small tasty snack but I wouldn't get it again if it was free. I gave it 3 stars because the setting is pleasant if the weather is nice and the piece of chicken was pretty good.

“The "Mystery" dinner can be hit or miss”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 29, 2012

Ad Hoc's tradition of a new dinner menu each night can be excellent, but then it can be risky too. I liked the dinner, but one in our party does not eat beef and the alternative they offered was really low quality food.

If everyone in the group is highly flexible to what you eat then this can be an awesome restaurant, but our experience was marginal with two in our party pretty disappointed.

The service was poor. We had a new server and the restaurant manager did a very poor job at supervising this new employee. Many mistakes occurred with us needing to repetitively ask for various items. When we left there was no one at the door to ask how our meal was. We don't blame the server because she was new, but this is a problem with management to first allow an untrained server to be unsupervised and secondly, not to spend the time to come around the tables and ask if they can be of help. If I owned this restaurant I would replace the GM or head waiter for allowing poor customer service.

“Nice place for lunch, take out and wonderful picnic in their garden”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 19, 2012

Strange concept but we enjoyed the subtle humor of the concept. If that is what it was? Anti pretentious setting with simple, yet decadently rich food, but good. They usually only have 2 choices a meat like pulled pork or ribs and the Ad Hoc "signature" deep fried chicken entree, presented in paper boxed lunch. There are few wine and beer selections. You can take it or sit at a picnic table in the garden. The two selections however are far from what anyone would imagine to be "take out" no is the price, as they are from the kitchen of the famed, Thomas Keller's, Ad Hoc. The fried chicken is very good chicken ,super fresh, but very rich and oily. The meat entree which in our case was BBQ ribs, had good flavors but very rich as well. You cannot be afraid of fatty foods here and not a place for supermodels or those on a diet. The pork ribs full of flavor and were so tender they feel off the bone. This little take out stand behind Ad Hoc takes your order and the wait staff brings you the wine in wine glasses and food in boxes and plastic utensils. They are only open at the end of the week and not on sunday. It is really a treat, but like real rich ice cream or gelato I would not eat it everyday.

“Not what I was expecting!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 17, 2012

Another couple and us drove over to the Napa area for the week end. Our first stop was Addendum because we had heard so much about their fried chicken. We called ahead of time with our orders because we were afraid that the line would be long. We were fortunate on this day and the line was fairly short. We ordered 3 chicken and 1 BBQ lunches. There certainly was more food than we could eat so the portions were plenty. We all agreed that the chicken was not as good as we were expecting. The coating was not as crispy as advertised and the seasoning was a bit different than standard fried chicken. It was tender and juicy but was lacking on crunchy.

The BBQ was better but nothing over the top. The sides were OK but somewhat bland. The corn bread was very good but did not make up for the chicken.
