Concierge is first rate and service/desk staff very friendly and responsive.

The grounds are lovely, but the physical conditions and cleaning/facilities maintenance of the actual accommodations are astonishingly sub-par, to say the least: smallish rooms, grungy dark carpeting, worn-out furnishings, broken plumbing, smelly closets, dirty walls, smelly bathrooms, you name it!

Location is superb for access to Yountville's prime restaurants, especially "The French Laundry" and "Bouchon Bakery", as well as to Chiarello's "Bottega".

Room Tip: Avoid perimeter and first floor rooms. Request upper floor in inner courtyard sections. Perform close inspection of room before accepting .... This property is much the worse for wear; rooms are not well cleaned between guests and definitely not properly maintained in furnishings or facilities, especially the plumbing. Cleaning and maintenance of rooms is of abominable quality.

We recently took an Executive Meeting/Incentive Group to the Villagio and all I can say is "wow"! The Villagio Inn and Spa was incredible on so many levels that it is hard to write about all of them in this limited forum. The location in downtown Yountville made visiting the charming restaurants, venues and wineries incredibly convenient. The lobby is a wonderfully comfortable place to simply relax in the over-stuffed sofas and chairs by the fireplace and enjoy the lobby breakfast in the morning, "high tea" service in the afternoons and wine tastings on weekends. The staff members were all so friendly, greeting everyone with a smile, which made the guests feel more like they were visiting a grand country estate than staying at a hotel. It was an incredible sight to see the steam rising off of the heated pool during the chilly mornings and, even though it was early March, the grounds were beautiful and I could only imagine how everything appears when in bloom.

Some of the rooms are near the highway and I can see how this might be a problem if the weather was warmer and doors and windows are open, but there are settings on the clock that provide "white noise" to keep the sound of traffic from being an issue in rooms that are located closest to the road. If this could be an issue I would suggest requesting a room located farthest from the road.

The beds are simply luxurious and I really didn't want to get out of them to start the day! The rooms are quite large and very well appointed with chairs and tables on the balconies and patios.

Room Tip: Rooms on the east side of the property are more quiet.

A bit dumbfounding that this hotel receives anything above 3 star reviews...I mean, seriously, for the price point there are literally a dozen better options in Napa and Sonoma.

Pro's -

Yountville location is perfectly nice, clean, staff is universally helpful and friendly, perks like wine and nespresso in the room are nice.

Con's -

Wow...where to begin. Run down, no two ways about it. HVAC is a 1950's wall unit type thing (I have NO idea where the would even source something like that these days). Bathroom is a mess...shower is broken with the handle for the water control spinning 360 degrees and marginal hot water throughout, shower head, also broken. Toilet marginally functional and looks to be original to the hotel or 15 years old. Not a single fixture in the entire bathroom matches, clearly a 'replace as things break' scenario. Bed sits on the floor and has GOT to be a 10 year old mattress. Run down, run down, run down. Insane they retain business.

Oh, and the icing on the cake? Pillows smelled overwhelmingly of mildew. Not a little, a LOT.

They require a 7 day advance for cancellation...know why? It's because once you're there, you are stuck and can't move.

We did anyway at the gracious assistance of the desk manager, but it was a lesson learned.

Go with what you know...MacArthur Place in Sonoma.

Room Tip: Find another hotel?

On behlaf if the Villagio Inn & Spa team, I'd like to extend a thank you to our guest for choosing Villagio for their Napa Valley visit and for taking the time to relate their recent experience. I was of course disappointed to read of all of the items that our guest found unsatisfactory and since then have met with my key managers in the interest of resolving any prevailing defects and/or inefficiencies with their guest room immediately. Thankfully, we seldom receive surveys of this nature as Villagio works hard to uphold the highest of standards while providing our valued guests an excellent Napa Valley experience, it is the reason why our guests selected Villagio as Condé Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Award 2012 as Northern California top 15 resorts and Travel + Leisure's 500 World's Best Hotel 2012,10th Best Hotel in California. We apologize to our guest for not exceeding their expectations and hope that they return to Villagio to provide us the opportunity to win their confidence back. Sean Dempsey, Director Operations

We stayed one night in Yountville to be based here for a private wine country tour. This hotel is so beautiful, you feel like you are in Italy. The grounds are impeccably maintained and manicured. The service is 5 star and the breakfast is perfect. We wished we would have had more time here. Yountville is a perfect location for any exploring this area of wine country. The restaurants that are available in this area are outstanding. Highly recommend for a special retreat. They will also ship your wine if you have an assortment that you buy in the area.

Room Tip: We had a standard 1 bedroom suite with a fireplace. It was so lovely! Complimentary great bottle of wine and champagne since we were celebrating a birthday. Spacious bathroom and room. Loved the fireplace!!!

Stayed at Villagio in January during a vacation in Napa. We love the town of Yountville and the location of Villagio. The room was nicely appointed, the bed super comfortable and the bathroom was roomy. The room did have noise due to the a/c heating system but we did not hear the traffic noise that others have mentioned from 29 even with our location being in the back of the property. It was in the 60's so we were able to take a quick swim since the pool is nicely heated.
The breakfast is a big plus, it is a great idea to start wine tasting with a full breakfast behind you. A number of days we didn't need lunch due to the excellent breakfast.
The location makes it easy to wander Yountville and stop at some tasting rooms and shops without needing your car.
Having Bistro Jeanty just across the street was a definite plus for my wife as it is her favorite.
The only downside is that it seems that the property especially outside is starting to need some renovation.
