Description: Chef Michael Chiarello has returned to his culinary roots by creating seasonal farm-to-table Italian cuisine reflecting the bold flavors of Chiarello’s heritage in his signature style 1st made famous at Tra Vigne in the 90’s. An award winning chef/vintner & Food Network host, Chiarello celebrates his Italian roots and the Napa Valley with a menu echoing his long practice of using the finest locally/sustainably produced food. Located in Yountville, in the heart of the Napa Valley, Bottega’s extensive wine list represents hard-to-find favorites of the Valley and interesting Italian selections. Chiarello restored the integrity of an old 1800’s estate by uncovering beautiful hard wood floors, timber beams, old brick walls and windows. The inviting dining room is accented with reclaimed antiques, warm fabrics and eclectic light fixtures lending to the restaurant’s old world comfort.

We enjoyed our dinner very much. Polenta under a glass is absolutely delicious! Our server was very attentive. I would recommend this restaurant for those visiting the Napa area.

Unfortunately, when you are on a pre-paid bus tour of the wine country, you know you are going to be directed to "selected" restaurants, but then when you are in the Napa/Sonoma area where the vinyards are only interrupted by tourist oriented oases, you can be pretty sure you are a captive audience. This place was among a number of eateries and shops. It was a bit hard to read. We were seated at a community table but served separately. It is an Italian restaurant. I had a flank steak which was done perfectly medium rare, served on a tomatoe paste sauce with potato chips and arugula. It was very good. Also the Bolognese was excellent and so was a short rib hamburger. Since most people had purchased wines at the wineries, we were told we could bring our own wine, however, corking fee was $25. The food was very good, a little on the pricey side, the place itself was a little more upscale, but so were the servers, other wait staff and the hosts. Not much personality from any of them, which made me feel like I just wanted to eat and get out.

We stayed at The Vintage Inn right next door (a MUST DO, in and of itself), and walked to the Bottega for dinner. Made our reservations three months in advance and they still called us to confirm because others wanted our table. Anyway, ambiance was lovely, service was perfect, and food was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. A really special treat.

While the food was very good, the service left a lot to be desired, especially when the restaurant is owned by acclaimed chef Michael Chiarello. Appetizers were not delivered at the same time, so that we had to wait before starting to eat. Drinks ordered to be drunk with the main course came after most of the meal had been eaten. Michael Chiarello's NapaStyle is next door, and most of the table appointments - napkins, tableware, etc. could be bought there. Diners who do not know Italian might think that the pot of salt, marked "Sale" meant that it was for sale, which isn't far from the truth. The noise level was such that our party of four had trouble conversing.

Had our hopes up for this place, but unfortunately it wasn't that great. Maybe we just had bad luck with the dishes we chose, but the pasta/sea urchin dish was less than impressive (the sauce was rather bland).
The wood fired octoupus was fantastic though.

Service is impeccable - no doubt about that.
