“Lovely room, outstanding service, very good food”
Reviewed January 15, 2012

Here are the things from our dinner that:
Exceeded Expectations: the room (dark, cozy, comfortable, just enough lights-accent and sparkle - this being the front room, by the way); the just-right pace and tone of the service (never felt like we were waiting or hurried, everyone very pleasant in their interactions); the ease of the menu (concise); the flexibilities in the prix fixe menu. No 'hidden charges' at all when the bill came.
Met Expectations: the taste and quality of the food. It tasted wonderful and it 'felt healthy' for lack of better description.
Where it fell just a teeny bit shy of expectations: the proportion of food quantity to meal-price. We all had exercised that afternoon and when we got home after dinner everyone made themselves a snack. I wouldn't mind asking next time if I could pay a 'fitness surcharge' of a few percent more to get just a little bit (and only a little bit) more of the food components that accompany, say, the fish, lamb or other main components of the appetizers and entrees. Things like a little more rice or vegetables. The only other item I can think of to improve at all would be a beaded curtain or something in the doorway of what I'll call the beverage-prep room, which was kind of a sore thumb to the lovely dining area. But if it impacted the service or staff's ability to get what they need to do done, no worries.
All in all, a really nice place for a relaxed, delicious dinner. Particularly for a special event celebration but good for a nice night out also.

“Nice restaurant with good food in a cozy setting”
Reviewed October 8, 2011

The restaurant is beautifully nestled in the woodsy downtown of Woodside. The location used to be John Bentley's restaurant. The setting is cozy and the food was unpretentious and sophisticated as it was advertised. The food was distinguished but subtle; unusual but simple; refined and yet light. All the plates are one-of- the-kind ceramic creations. Everything is so unconventional.

“Charming Local, Organic Cuisine Without Any Pretension”
Reviewed July 30, 2011

Station 1 is as quaint as they come. Set in a historic former firehouse in the charming town of Woodside, the owners, Zu and Kristi Tarazi, have carefully crafted a culinary experience that they describe as sophisticated and unpretentious. This ethos is reflected both in the decor full of reclaimed wood and artisan touches and the organic, local ingredients that support sustainable, fair-trade farming.

The $59 three course prix fixe menu and accompanying amuse bouche and intermezzo is a foodie's dream that is entirely approachable. There is also a great selection of great throw back cocktails and I am currently obsessed with their Aperol Sour with a splash of St-Germain and sprig of Rosemary served in a vintage champagne glass. The service is attentive and, as promised, unpretentious. They also do a great job at pacing their meals and I enjoyed being languishing and fully indulging each course.

I always start with Chilled Beets as I am a huge beets fan. On my first visit I had the Sockeye Salmon with wax beans. I typically don't order salmon at restaurants as it tends to be overcooked, over sauced, or crunchy. I personally hate blackened fish. The Sockeye Salmon, however, was everything salmon should be - soft, moist, and flavored with a mild sauce that didn't overwhelm the freshness of the fish. On my follow up visit I had the Berkshire Pork that they serve two ways - medallion and shredded. The medallion was soft and buttery perfection and the shredded pork was right amount of salty. The watermelon intermezzo was a perfect palate cleanser for the apricot crisp which are cooked halves of apricot with a crunchy crumble topped with créme fraiche.

While Woodside isn't the culinary destination that Yountville is, if you are anywhere in a 20 mile radius, it is worth a visit.

The menu changes, and the dishes are rather complex to describe but this place is really interesting and delicious.
