“Horrible Experience!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 3, 2012

We checked in on Novemeber 20th in the midst of a downpour. The man at the front desk was new, and unable to assist us with the heater not working in the room. Several days after check-out, I received a letter stating that there was dog fecal matter outside of the room we stayed in, and charged our card an additional $250.00 for damages from the pet. WE DID NOT HAVE A PET WITH US! How dare they accuse us of something we had nothing to do with.

We are sorry this guest is upset that they were charged for bringing a pet in a non pet friendly room. We do have our guests acknowledge and sign at check in that they are aware their room is not pet friendly and that there is a $250.00 minimum charge. What this guest has failed to acknowledge in the review is that we found a shredded blanket (we sent them photos of the blanket) - that their dog tore up in the room.

We have four pet friendly rooms for guests traveling with pets. We also make our guests aware of our pet policy and have them initial stating the $250.00 fee if they do bring a pet into a non pet friendly room. There are many people who have allergies or just do not want a room where a pet has stayed and we respect their right.

This was a pretty middle of the road motel. We paid extra for the quiet room (and for a pet) making our total with tax and everything almost $170. That was WAY TOO MUCH! (non-weekend, even) It was adequate to basic-nice, but nothing special. Obviously half-way refurbished room...again, they got some pretty nice linens and that kind of thing, but it still wasn't worth it! They did put us at the end of the longer group of buildings, away from the rest of the customers, but it was off-season and no kids anyway, so...didn't make much difference. There was a Mickey D's closer to us than the rest of the rooms, and then the highway...since we had the heater/fan on all night, that made white noise so we did sleep pretty well.

Their breakfast was, again, pretty nice, as these low-to-mid range motels go...an egg dish, hot and cold cereal, fruit (basic apples and bananas) 1 kind of bagel, etc. It got the job done, but nothing I would rave about.

In short, it was fine, but not something I would pay for again or recommend to people as a super place to stay. Since I felt I paid too much for what we got, I give it a 2 rating.

First we would like to thank you for taking the time to write a review. We were, however, a bit puzzled as to your title "A Spa, Really?" It did not appear that you used our Spa from what read in your review. Our spa is onsite and we have excellent therapists!

We have four pet friendly rooms, one is a Premium King for smaller pets. Apparently that is the room you chose and that room is $130 plus tax plus a $20 pet fee. We do, however, have pet rooms that cost less - and then there are discounts such as Triple A, AARP, etc.

We are disappointed that you rated us 2 star based on price - because price is something that is negotiated prior to your stay. We encourage our guests to call us at the front desk if anything is not to their expectations and we will do all we can to try to make your stay as pleasant as possible. Perhaps if you had called us we could have moved you into a traditional room and your cost would have been less.

Thank you!

Jan

On our California tour my husband and I stayed in seven different accommodations from apartment to Bed and Breakfast to motel rooms. We both agree that our stay at Baechtel Creek was our favorite. The breakfast was delicious with enough variety to please my hearty breakfast eating husband and satisfy my need for lighter fare. I wanted to enjoy the hot tub beautifully situated next to the pool against the back drop of flowers and shrubbery, but a cold winter rain drove me back to my cozy room where I settled for a hot soak in the tub. Squeaky clean room and tastefully decorated. I plan to return for a more intended stay and take advantage of the spa and train ride to Fort Bragg. Desk staff were friendly and helpful.

The Baechtel Inn had very comfortable beds. We were talked in to the upgrade from a $110 to $130 a night because they said they had remodeled certain rooms. The room was spacious, the bed was very comfortable, and the shower was great. I think they had upgraded the beds, linens and such, but the carpet in this room was stained badly in several places. This is a small town so we thought it kind of pricey, but were told it was the best in town. It is on the main road of the town so it does not come off as a 'spa' but it served the purpose for our stay. The breakfast was limited and the staff not overwhelmingly friendly.

Thank you so much for your review. We are thrilled you liked our beds, as mentioned on a previous review - they are Sealy Plush mattresses and really are outstanding! We also appreciate your comments on the linens, etc and are pleased you were happy. We are very concerned over the "stained" carpet and have emailed this guest to see what room he was in so we can check that out. We do our carpet cleaning regularly and try to be on top of that aspect of cleanliness! As to limited breakfast - we get such conflicting reviews on our breakfast - we do not serve a full breakfast like many chains do - mainly prepackaged , premade items. We do our own hot egg dish, waffel bar, hot oatmeal in rice cooker, hard boiled eggs, fresh fruit, two breads and yogurt, cereal, coffee, teas and OJ and milk. Again, thank you for your review - they are always very much appreciated!

We stopped there one night on our way back to the SF Bay Area. This is a very nice Inn. The staff were extremely helpful and pleasant. The room was very clean, nicely furnished and the bed was oh so comfy. The complimentary breakfast was one of the best I've had. Overall experience was very nice. We'll make a trip there again sometime.

Room Tip: All the rooms seem to be ok. It's set back on a side street, so it's quiet and you don'...

Thank you for your kind review! We are thrilled you loved our mattresses. They are Sealy Plush 7 - with two layers of Sealy Soft Foam inside and we find that most of our guests love them!

WE also appreciated your feedback on our breakfast - as we do try hard to give healthy options and by preparing it ourselves this helps avoid ingredients which are in processed prepackaged breakfast items. We are constantly striving to improve - so feedback it great.

Thank you again and hope to see you again!

First time to Mendocino County and being at the Baechtel Creek Inn in Willits gave me an opportunity to go North to the giant Redwood (awesome, don't miss!), west to the coast and I even had time to go south to some really quaint wineries. I opted for the Premium Room - which is a little more, but I felt very much worth it as it is the quieter building (no one under 18!) and everything was so clean, the bedding is all white and so comfy! They had just installed new flat screen tvs, and really my room had everything I could want - iron and board, microwave/refrig, coffee maker and blowdryer! Plus the Spa is located in that same building and had the most fabulous massage ever --- came out of there like a wet noodle! Breakfast was very good - definitely not your typical chain powered eggs - the egg dish was different each day, hot oatmeal in a rice cooker and yogurt and fresh fruit - is what appealed to me. It is one of the only places along the 101 corridor that I found to have personality and have its own flavor, as opposed to the many typical chain places.

Room Tip: Smaller building has the upgraded rooms and is for those over 18!

Well, I have to be honest. I'm really loyal to a place I like and we've been staying here on trips since nearly the time the place was built, as a nicer option to the old-style highway 101 motels. It's been a few years but I was surprised that the Baechtel Creek Inn had re-invented itself as an upscale inn and spa which it is not. We paid a $20 premium for a higher-end king room in the "adult" section. I appreciated the quiet but the room was just another motel room and not all that nice. OK, it smelled nice but beige pile carpet doesn't do it. On my "would you walk barefoot in this room" scale it was barely a 5 out of 10. For those new to my reviews, 1 on the scale is hiking boots and heavy socks and 10 is operating-room clean. All attempts to make the room look upscale fell flat, mostly cheap heavy furniture with no seating or table space. When we got into the room there was a "sit print" on the bedspread where it looked like maybe the housekeeper (or someone) maybe sat and watched the news on TV for a break. The ice bucket was high on a shelf out of sight and reach and the coffee pot in the bathroom (rapidly becoming one of my chief irritations) does not say "upscale". One real irritation was that there were no sheer curtains on the window. It was either blacked out or wide open. Not good. A/C was noisy so we cooled the room and shut the unit off for the night. We skipped breakfast, which was not "full hot breakfast" as advertised and went uptown.Staff was very very nice, though, which is always a plus. Please, guys, do what you do best. I want the old Baechtel Creek back.

Room Tip: The property is off-highway and quiet.

We appreciate our loyal return guests and value their opinion. We have completed rennovated over the last few years, including new furniture, new mattresses, just installed flat screen tvs, granite counter tops in most of the rooms, and are still in process of completing all our rennovations.

This guest chose one of our premium rooms - these are located in our smaller building and we allow no one under 18 in this building. The bed linens are higher quality, there are robes in the room and a nicer look and feel. However, we have 30 of our Traditional rooms - these also are rennovated and might be more to this guest;'s personal liking. They are also about $20 less.

We hope you will come back and try one of these rooms! Thank you for your comments about our staff service!
