Multifarious is this establishment. A veritable Vietnamese fast food titan. Many items are pick up, pay and go. Bánh mì and Chè are ordered with the "kind" lady at the counter. I find that if you SMILE really BIG, kind of like - I ride the short bus BIG, she warms up to you. Next time, I think I that will make her day and bring her some flowers. =^.^=
Allow me to offer some clarity and unpack some of the mystery behind Vietnamese food... for those not familiar with Bánh Pâté Chaud - A French inspired meat-filled pastry possessing a flaky crust with either pork or chicken as the filling.
Also, Chè is a Vietnamese sweet dessert soup or pudding. And.according to Wikipedia - "Chè are often prepared with one of a number of varieties of beans and/or glutinous rice, cooked in water and sweetened with sugar. Other ingredients may include tapioca starch, salt, and pandan leaf extract. Each variety of chè is designated by a descriptive word or phrase that follows the word chè, such as chè u (literally "red bean chè")."
Onto the true nature of this discourse.
Bánh Mì Tht Nng is a sandwich finished with mayonnaise, cilantro, thinly sliced - cut a bias jalapeños, pickled and julienned radish and carrots. The enclosed grilled pork has been marinated with lemon grass, fish sauce and garlic. The baguette is buttery and delicious - the exterior is crispy and the interior texture is chewy. It is served at slightly below room temperature.
Chè khoai môn is prepared with glutinous rice, pandan paste and taro. The Chè is topped with coconut milk that has been prepared with salt, tapioca starch, sugar and water. The dessert is tacky and sweet. The coconut milk adds a savory aspect to offset the sweetness of the Chè.
