Description: Over 20 years ago, three young entrepreneurs with a passion for food and a desire to make customers happy, came together with a simple idea: serve fresh, high quality, eclectic California inspired food for busy Angelenos. They would cook for those too busy to cook. In 1990 the original Marmalade Cafe opened on Montana Avenue in Santa Monica. The 1,400 square foot store with limited seating featured a full bakery and cases of fresh salads and entrees for diners on the go. Marmalade Cafe was an instant success and was quickly adopted by the community. Less than three years later, in response to an increasing number of appeals for a full dining experience at Marmalade Cafe, founders Selwyn Yosslowitz, Robert Burn Jr. and Bonnie Burns opened the first full service Marmalade Cafe in Malibu. With only 100 seats, Marmalade Cafe Malibu quickly became a cornerstone in the eclectic Malibu community. This constant demand for the fresh California cuisine characteristic of Marmalade Cafe led to the restaurant's expansion into major Los Angeles communities. Today, Marmalade Cafe has nine units with locations across Los Angeles County as well as Santa Barbara. Each cafe is unique in design and decor. Adorned with Americana antiques, personally found and placed by Bonnie Burns, every Marmalade Cafe exudes a warm & cozy neighborhood cafe ambiance. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner Marmalade Cafe is the neighborhood cafe that Angelenos depend for everyday meals, holidays and special events. Whether it is a birthday, rehearsal dinner, Thanksgiving or Mother's Day, Marmalade Cafe offers guests excellent, fresh and inventive food. The restaurant's private dining rooms and the full service catering have provided exceptional event services for large LA businesses like Boeing, Mattel, CBS and Warner Brother Studios. At the Marmalade Cafe in The Original Farmers Market, guests are able to enjoy Marmalade's signature items while exploring the historic Los Angeles landmark. The Original Farmers Market, opened by the Gilmore family in 1934, is visited by three million Angelenos and tourists annually. Marmalade Cafe is part is proud to be an integral part of the fabric of Los Angeles dining. The relationship between Marmalade Cafe and Los Angeles is as strong as it was when the first cafe opened on Montana Avenue in Santa Monica.

“Wake up.”
Reviewed July 16, 2014

I had looked in the previous night and returned for breakfast the next day. The greeting at the door was very pleasant and I decided to sit at the bar for breakfast. The lady behind the bar serving and making the coffee's had zero personality and NO social skills. I initially thought this may have been because I came from England, but no, she was like this with everyone. My food and coffee turned up which was very pleasant and the atmosphere of the Marmalade Cafe is nice also, it just needs the experienced staff to try a bit harder. The man I presumed to be the manager was too busy talking to the two young guys on the door to notice, that with a bit more of a professional approach, the place and the service would improve considerably. So come on, STOP TALKING TO EACH OTHER, SMILE and look after the customers a bit more. If this is done, it will be a great place for breakfast.

“Fun, High-Energy Room & Patio for Brunch”
Reviewed July 6, 2014

We have family in Simi Valley and they suggested meeting for brunch today before we headed out to LA so we did just that, and the 8 of us enjoyed every minute of being at Marmalade Cafe (even when the power went out in the entire shopping area, and they had to close for the afternoon!). Our server handled the entire manual check system like a pro after serving us delicious brunch items.

We enjoyed the mushroom, bacon, goat cheese frittata that was accompanied by delicious breakfast potatoes as well as the portabello mushroom Eggs Benedict which was a cool, meatless way of presenting this traditional brunch item. All other items were terrific as well.

The patio is a lovely area to sit except for the flies which were bothersome at times so maybe inside would have been better. I can imagine on a wonderful evening with the lights it would be more charming.

just had the Ruben, which was good & made exactly as i was craving for. But the main reason for this is the un-believable service. Wanted a brown mustard sauce which they did not carry but to my delight, the manager went to BristolFarms next to get me the mustard. What a !!!!! luv this place. will check it out for Lobster Tuesdays. great service & food

“The patio in the summertime!”
Reviewed June 13, 2014

Met with friends for happy hour after work. Our server was fantastic, we sat on the patio on a beautiful sunny afternoon.
Service was excellent.
Our food was excellent.
(I tried the artichoke dip and not impressed with it as it was way too chunky with the sauce a little too runny. We felt it was more of soup-they missed on that one) however everything else we had to delicious and appealing.

“Great breakfast”
Reviewed April 20, 2014

Typically I am here for breakfast - and off the menu you can order a half eggs benedict - which is my go to order. Gilsons scramble is great as are the pancakes.
