I love this place. Understated elegance, a great rooftop pool, great poolside service, and beautiful spread for included breakfast, large rooms, awesome showers, warm service! I stayed here after the AIDS Lifecycle Ride (545 miles from SF to LA on a bicycle!)...and will do it again. Easy walk to West Hollywood, too.

Room Tip: Love the balcony rooms overlooking W Hollywood!

I travel for business all the time and this hotel is quite simply the BEST. The rooms are European designed masterpieces and the service is excellent. Did I mention their FABULOUS FREE BREAKFAST??!! No soggy eggs or day-old fruit. Fresh and amazing. I will most certainly return.

West Hollywood has a lot of choices in the Luxury Hotel category so I wasn't sure if the London would be the right choice. I have to say, that I'm glad i chose this one! The Hotel was a great stay. From the point you arrive, the staff treats you with great care. The rooms were nicely decorated and the bathrooms are immense. Great beds to boot for a comfortable nights sleep. The two big bonuses for us were the use of their chofered car, complements of the hotel. Our dinner was out of the 2 mile range but the driver offered to take us anyway as he had no pending rides. We we're content with the free ride to the restaurant and to our amazement, our driver showed up 3 hours later, right after we finished our dinner, to take us back to the hotel. Now thats what i call great client service! The other nice suprise was the free continental breakfast offered to their guests. We we're expecting the usual stale danish offerings with perhaps some cereal and to our amazment, we're offered a wonderful buffet of fresh fruit, smoked salmon, yogurt parfait and the likes. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting LA. WHy 4 stars? The bathroom sink stopper was not working and it took engineering over 1 1/2 hours to fix it. Besides that, this was a great stay.

Upon reading the rave reviews on Trip Advisor, I booked The London for a luxurious getaway on Memorial Day weekend. I was a bit disappointed because I did not anticipate the hotel to be as average as it was. The hotel has great potential to be an amazing hotel. The rooms are very spacious and the bathrooms are absolutely gorgeous. However, in terms of decor and feel, the hotel is very much passé and definitely overpriced. I love the 1920s interior design and ambiance BUT the feel is definitely not vintage chic but instead dated luxury in serious need of TLC. Although disappointed, my family and I had a pleasant stay. The staff is friendly and welcoming.

Room Tip: The veranda suites are gorgeous.

We stayed at the London for three nights this past weekend; I found myself a bit surprised at the existence of so many positive reviews of this establishment on this site, and was motivated to provide our observations of it. In the interests of fairness i'll start with some positives; the rooms are large, the beds very comfortable and the location good (walking distance to shops and restaurants on sunset). Initial impressions were positive, and the bellman (Mat) was very pleasant. After that bright start though, our positive feelings about the place suffered a kind of slow death over the course of our stay. Our main issue with the place was attitude - the management, and to an extent the staff, give the impression that they don't really care much about keeping their guests happy - the place is coasting along, is full a lot, and therefore they are not going the extra mile (or inch even frankly) to make the experience of staying here a fine one. I'll give some examples:

1. Breakfast 1 - there is a free buffet at the hotel restaurant. Frankly, its not that exciting a spread but given it is free we tried to avail ourselves of it on two of our three mornings here. First time out, last Sunday, we went down and had to give our names to the (not that pleasant) lady on the desk and to queue outside the restaurant to go in. At the same time there were around 15-20 other guests in the line with us. We assumed that the issue was one of lack of space, and we waited it out. Once we got in the room, we were pretty stunned to see that there were a significant number of empty tables in there - we counted 8 empty tables, including one next to us which had not been cleared, and remained uncleared the whole time we were there. Food was self serve, and the choice limited by the time we got down there (around 9 i think on the Sunday). What staff there was were unimpressive - we asked for water twice and by the time we left still had not been served. For the States this is extremely rare to say the least.

2. Breakfast 2 - After the Sunday pain, we did not bother with breakfast until the day we left. Needing to get going quickly in the morning we popped down to see if we could pick up a coffee and a couple of bits of pastry and take them out with us (seemed bettter than standing in line again!). The same charmless lady manning the desk told my wife that we could do this, but she would charge us 22 dollars for the takeout. On hearing that (which i found unfathomable in terms of attitude to a guest) we gave up and went away empty handed.

3. Room standard - once you look closely at the room, there is evidence of cheapness in the fittings. It looks ok from a distance, but start using the room and it is all a bit flimsy (like its sister hotel in NY they have done a makeover of an older hotel by spending as little as possible). Examples include the tv, which had a very variable quality signal, and the patio door and windows (single glazed, really quite noisy at night). The pool loungers were also quite hard and cheaply made - not that nice to sit on. The was also no bath in our room - bit annoying as the booking confirmation we had says there would be one.

4. valet parking - the 36 dollar a night charge was annoying, as was the way you could not simply just pick the key up and get in - someone always ran down with you to open the car door and try to collect more tips. On one occasion we had two guys opening a door each - just go! 36 dollars a night is enough, i don't want to feel like i need to pay extra for a man to open my door for me!

5. Pool - on saturday afternoon this was like something from an MTV pool party. Loud music and nowhere to sit - to be fair it was much more relaxing on the Monday, but it its not necessarily going to suit anyone over 30.

We rated the hotel as a three, simply for the large rooms, beds and location. With better service and attention to detail (and frankly a total revamp of the breakfast set up) this could be a four or a five. I see management does not post responses by the way to reviews on this site - they'd probably be advised to actually read some of the comments on here at times, as they might (if they cared) be able to improve the place if they did.

Sumptuous and luxurious hotel. Decor not to everyone's taste but definite feeling of opulence and comfort. Bathroom fabulous and room enormous and very comfortable, if a trifle hideous.

Having to wait for a table for breakfast is an inconvenience. But the meal itself is excellent.
Service and staff impeccable.

Whole pool experience, including the cocktails and food, is brilliant.

Room Tip: Avoid west-facing San Vicente Blvd side as it's very noisy, the sound-proofing is poor and there...

This is our third or fourth visit and we love this hotel. As return guests the service is exemplary. A special mention of the concierge Kirk who always makes our stay special and trouble free. Especially travelling from Australia, the organisation of the car service and check in after a very long flight with the family, there is never a problem.
The one bedroom suite is a fantastic room and one of the biggest we have stayed in and has two huge bathrooms. Perfect for a family with young children.
The pool is a great area to be, with many deck chairs and cabana's and the staff is always friendly and helpful. There are moments at the pool when it is a bit of a scene and the "beautiful people" hang out but not once have we ever felt unwelcome with the kids. Our nine year old's favourite thing to do is go for a late night swim while we get to watch on, sitting by the fire pit sipping a cocktail looking at the lights of Los Angeles spread out below us.
The location is quite central to most areas. Even Santa Monica is about a 20-30 minute drive down Santa Monica Blvd. A car is needed at this location but there is a complimentary hotel car for close locations. We always prefer to have a car.
The London West Hollywood has become one of our favourite hotels.
