Was hoping to dine on the patio...which seemed to be closed for good.

Food was ok, downhill a bit from a little over a year ago.

Interersting concept though.

We had dinner here our first night in West Hollywood. It did not disappoint. We arrived just before 6:00 and were able to take advantage of the happy hour special. We tried several dishes and all were very good to excellent. We especially recommend the baked crab roll, the green beans and the tuna satay. You can't beat the happy hour pricing. The restaurant is small and by the time we left it was almost packed. Go early!

Yatai is a good deal during normal operating hours - during "Happy Hour" with $3 dishes it's unbeatable. The food is simple delicious Japanese fare - and as its cooked (quickly) to order it's fresh and piping hot. Frankly it's a lot better than a much grander establishment a block down Sunset Boulevard. Highly recommended.

I actually have been coming to Yatai for years and I've NEVER been disappointed (except for the increased crowds now make it harder to get a table).

For the quality of food, the prices are reasonable when you look at other options like Katsu-ya or KOI. We ate and ate and drank and payed $85 for two people. Had we been at Katsu-ya, it would have been twice that price.

You can literally order anything off the menu and be happy. My favorites include the yellowtail jalapeno carpaccio and the albacore with crispy onion dish. They even have a happy hour menu from 5:30p-9p. Amazing. Go early (before 7p) to get a spot.

We decided to try Yatai for dinner last night. Drove by it twice before we found this hidden gem. Poorly lit on the outside and easy to miss. Got there about 8 o'clock and were immediately seated. Pretty rare for a Saturday night with no reservation. Every table was taken by 8:30. Large selection of Asian tapas. My favorites were the black cod and the soft shell crab. My only complaint would be the servers. Poorly trained if at all. I found them rude at times. Yatai is very reasonably priced. Dinner for 3 including saki and tip under $110. Meter parking available on street.
