I was a regular - as in 2-3 times a week - at Kung Pao Bistro in the early Aughts when I was in college. It was brand new when I first moved down the street on Norton and my then-roommate recommended it. The food was truly fantastic for what it was, the prices were amazing and the service was good. The co-owner and person who ran the restaurant at the time was Simon, an immigrant from Hong Kong who cared about his customers and worked hard. I would walk in and they knew what I wanted - Kung Pao chicken, extra spicy, broccoli in place of mushrooms and brown rice. They would refill your rice bowl for free and the all white meat chicken was both healthy and delicious. Back then, it would have been a clear 5, and a 10 if I could give it that many.
Fast forward, Simon is gone and the place isn't what it once was. Its still an OK value and the food is still very good (the chef/main owner is very talented and developed amazing, timeless recipes), but the service just isn't there anymore and they seem to be much more into nickel and diming. Too bad.
