“Comfortable, private and very nice hosts in a great location”
Reviewed December 14, 2013

We stayed at the Laurel Inn a few nights after staying at a luxury ocean front hotel in Santa Monica for a couple of nights. We enjoyed our stay at the Laurel Inn better than the hotel because the spacious separate guesthouse with a rooftop 360 view was more comfy and less confined. The master bedroom with a king bed is sunny with windows that open for fresh air..unlike the hotel.
For us, the location was fantastic..good walking neighborhood. We could walk to shops at Melrose, find great restaurants nearby and walk to Whole Foods. We stayed there because our son lives in the neighborhood, but our adult daughter liked the amenities and location just as well as we did. Nice to have a kitchen, fresh fruit provided and beer and wine in the refrigerator. Very thoughtful touches. It saved us money to have a kitchen and let us relax more with room to spread out.
John and Lucy couldn’t have been more gracious hosts. Just perfect folks to manage a B&B that is more guesthouse than traditional B&B. We enjoyed their warm, but not-overly-involved-with-us approach. They live in a nice, quiet neighborhood close to all kinds of fun things to do. We’ll be back!

We enjoyed our short, two-night stay at the Laurel Inn this past week. The owners, John & Lucy, have built a nice little apartment in the back of their house, that is a perfect little piece of paradise. Most of the other reviews have covered the amenities: very spacious, with a separate living area and bedroom, on different floors; beautiful roof-top deck with views of West Hollywood; walking distance to Melrose and Santa Monica Blvd.

But to be sure, this isn't really a B&B in the strict sense. There's no steaming latte's with warm scones in the morning. The owners do provide some frozen breakfast items that you can prepare, and some cereal and beverages like coffee. But skip all that and go have a wonderful, hearty breakfast at Canter's Deli on Fairfax.

So, a wonderful place to stay, if you're not looking for a full B&B experience, and you don't mind a few flights of stairs.

Room Tip: There's only one room, so nothing to choose.

John and Lucy, owners of Laurel Inn, do a great job at making one feel at home. Plenty of space and all amenities along being walking distance to attractions, shopping, and restaurants are a few of the positives. And John and Lucy are gracious hosts.

My two teenage daughters and I stayed at the Laurel Inn over Labor Day weekend (Sept 2013) and had a fabulous time. The girls were a little apprehensive about staying at someone's house as it was their first time but once they saw that we had our own little apartment in the back with a separate entrance, they were very excited. Apartment had a large living space and kitchen on the second floor and a large very roomy bedroom upstairs along with a awesome roof top where you could see downtown LA, the mountain side and even the Hollywood sign. I would sit up there in the morning and enjoy my coffee.

Note we are from the South where things are laid back and sometimes we felt like fish out of water, but it didn’t take us long to get into the groove of the fast pace city life of Hollywood. It is a very different lifestyle, but we enjoyed it so much that my girls want to come back again.

With that being said, I will list the pro's and cons:

Pro's
1. B&B. Loved all the room it provided. The kids were happy to have moving room instead of being crowded in a hotel room. Also, the apartment has two bathrooms so no problem with the girls and a mom trying to get bathroom time.
2. B&B. Very clean and comfortable. Bed was comfortable and TV in room. Very spacious with a pull out bed too. We all slept upstairs.
3. B&B. Outdoor patio with table and chairs to enjoy breakfast outside or you can take stairs to the roof top and sit on the swing and enjoy the awesome view. The roof top being the girls and I favorite location to go in the mornings and late evenings.
4. B&B. Owners are very nice and helpful.
5. B&B. Parking was not an issue and area of B&B was in a neighborhood which felt comfortable and safe. Close to Melrose Blvd. If you have are there on a Sunday, they have a fabulous flea market on Melrose.
6. B&B. Fabulous location. Close to lots of attractions. Santa Monica Blvd is right off of where the B&B is located and you can get to everything from it. It takes you all the way down to the beach too (Santa Monica Pier and the Promenade for shopping). We didn't have to get on the Freeway hardly at all to get to most of the destinations.
2. A car is definitely a must to get around. You do a lot of driving! Take HWY 1 if you get a chance. It is the scenic beach route that takes you up to Malibu and farther. Worth the drive if you can fit it into your schedule. Start at Santa Monica Pier and keep driving North. Venice Beach is South. It is also quite the experience. Make sure you rent bikes, it is well worth it.
3. There are lots of fun things to do and see. Be prepared with things to do or take a tour which would probably be a good thing to do first thing and then go back and visit the places you want to spend more time at later.
4. Rodeo Drive a must. We got to see a Bugatti (for those of you who are familiar with cars) it was amazing. Black and Yellow and worth 1.2 million dollars according to the gentlemen standing next to it.

Con's
1. B&B. Two flights of stair you need to climb with your luggage. So if you have problems with having to go up and downstairs, then this would not be a good place to stay.
2. Traffic is bad, even on the main roads so just sit back, relax and sightseeing along the way. There is no way around it. Just go with the flow.
3. Parking close to the attractions can be a challenge especially if you want to eat at a restaurant. We gave up on many places to eat because finding a parking spot was almost impossible.
4. Gas Price. The least price being around $3.87 and the most over $4.00. Rent a Compact to Mid-size car if possible. Parking spots are designed for small cars not SUV’s which we got stuck with because they ran out of Compact/Mid-size cars due to Labor Day.

Anyway overall our trip was fun and the Laurel Inn in located in West Hollywood would be a great place to stay if you want a quiet, safe, close to attractions and a fabulous view of LA and the Hollywood to stay.

We stayed two nights and wish it could be much longer. Totally comfortable, super spacious, great location and well supplied with everything. We didn't have parking problems, even though parking on the street with special permission card. If you have a lot of luggage, it's a little challenging since the B&B is on the 2nd and 3rd floors.

We stayed at the Laurel Inn this past Labor day weekend for 2 nights. Lucy and John were fantastic. They have what is essentially a guest house in their backyard. The first floor is Lucy's office/garage which is locked off, second floor is a fabulous bar, kitchen/dining area. Third floor is the bedroom, which is enormous. There are 2 full bathrooms, 2 pull out sofas, a large soft comfy king bed, and plenty of closet space. Each door locks individually with a set of keys. The most unique part of this space, however, was the roof-there is an adorable swing on the roof of the guesthouse, with views of the Hollywood sign and most of the LA area. Separate keyed entryway through a gate at the side of the house, and great parking. The place is spotless, and feels like you're staying at a friend's with the warm, inviting atmosphere. Cereal, coffee, milk, and snacks are available if you need them-we were really interested in LA's food scene, so we didn't use too much of the food.

The location is truly unbeatable-with good traffic, less than 10-15 minutes from the highway, 10 minutes from Walk of Fame, 2 minutes to The Grove (walkable but weather was super hot when we were there), 15 minutes from Rodeo Drive, and maybe 20 from downtown LA/Little Tokyo. The price was also perfect for us, especially with the holiday weekend.

John and Lucy were fabulous hosts-they were kind, gave us great advice on restaurants/places to go, and were never intrusive. My husband and I would definitely stay here again on another trip to Los Angeles.
