“Disgusting, Looks and feels like a poorly maintained prison”
Reviewed July 30, 2007

My boyfriend and I stayed for two nights in order to attend the new year's celebrations at the Skybar. I have never been more disgusted or disappointed by a hotel. Our room looked worse than my first year college apartment...in fact, I think it may have had the same $100 secondhand sofa in it and ikea basic dinette set. The carpet featured a prominent urine stain surrounded by cigarette burns. I didn't actually want to sit down, walk around or touch anything in the living room area. The shower had absolutely no water pressure and the TV was crackly with alot of stations receiving no reception. Seriously, the place was appalling. We complained several times to management whose only response was to leave a bottle of carpet cleaner in our unmade up room for our return from shopping. Until the renovations are completed, this hotel has absolutely no right charging anything above a budget motel's pricing. They should be seriously ashamed of themselves for exploiting their location to scam tourists into spending money on a completely filthy dump. I would honestly advise anyone against staying here. You would get a nicer room at a Travelodge.

I stayed at the Mondrian on Saturday, June 30th. After reading some of the reviews I was a little hesitant but I got a great deal on the room and decided to stay there with my fiance. After checking in we were greeted by a friendly bellman and proceeded to check in. Everyone at check in was friendly. Upon entering our room my fiance and I were surprised to find out we had an upgraded room but I guess this was a perk of booking online. The floor was a little worn but I really wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't read previous reviews. Partied at SkyBar Saturday night, WAYYYYY to packed. For an exclusive club it was way to busy. But if you are like us and in your mid to late 20's you're here to stay at a cool hotel and party. This hotel is tailor made for that. THE PROS: Hip hotel, guaranteed access to Skybar with up to 4 guests including yourself, easy access to bars on Sunset, I recommend the Standard, or Trochadero always good times. THE CONS: CANNOT bring outside alcohol in, what a stupid, stupid policy, just sneak it in your bag if you plan to drink in your room. Valet parking is $29 a night.

Stayed 2 non-consecutive nights within a week of each other, both booked on Priceline.
Agree with the people who said that the furnishings were cheap and scuffed, that the rooms weren't special. All true.
Agree with the people who said that the hotel nickel and dime's you for stuff. Ice has to be brought by room service. Stuff like that.
Bed wasn't bad, but not special.
Service was uneven. Managers (the ones in the tan suits) were able to handle most service issues intelligently, but other workers (the ones in the white pants and t-shirts) were less able.
Yet, all of the hotel's shortcomings can be forgiven if what you are after is a heavy dose of the LA scene with models and Bentleys and all that is fabulous and fake flying by. For the right sort of person, it could be entertaining.
There is also a slightly sexual undercurrent going on and you could easily pretend to be someone you're not and might even get lucky. With someone who normally would be way out of your league.
Might all be reasons why the hotel continues to stay in business, charging the rates it does for what is essentially not a great hotel. If your needs go beyond wanting to be a part of the LA scene, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.

I was a little freaked out by all the reviews of this hotel, and indeed, the concierge (uber-spiffy blond type) has an attitude, although he was able to help us in the end, we just had to be patient with him... and it took the valet 30 min. to get us our car (no Bentley here) while other people came and went.

That said, Asia de Cuba was pretty good, as was the view from our table, and our junior suite, while minimalist, was clean, decent-sized for a couple, and reasonably stylish. Sure, the mini-bar and room service prices are extortion, but they are in any hotel... the only thing I found excessive was the drink pricing at Asia de Cuba's bar ($15 for a caipirinha - are you kidding me?! Although, I have to admit, my girlfriend spotted B-rate celebrities Michael Bolton and Nicolette Sheridan. Yay.). Their workout room was okay too, although I suppose with 6 cardio machines and 6 weight machines, it could get full pretty quickly. As the title says, I think it was worthy of three stars.... a unique boutique hotel, but I wouldn't call it luxury.

Stay here if you are all about being seen and spending time with wannabes. This hotel is VERY pretentious and so are the staff and guests.

The room is tiny and not decorated (the bathroom is basically a motel bathroom), the lobby is just OK but nothing special (absolutely NOT as exceptional as the Delano in South Beach or the Hudson in New York, which both belong as well to the same hotel group), the staff is unfriendly (the concierge must believe he is at least as important as the Queen Victoria). And what I disliked the most : The pool is small and OVERPACKED - forget to lie on a chair unless you tip the poolboy. And also forget to sleep before 2am if you have a pool-view room. At least the view is nice and so is the music at the Sky Bar.

Bottom line : Do not stay here, but come for a drink by the pool at night and enjoy the view and the music.

  • Liked — View, location.
  • Disliked — Anything else (value for money, room, staff, overpacked pool).

It's painfully obvious that ALL of the money they make has gone into: 1) the lobby; 2) the restaurant; 3) the bars; 4) the pool. Our room had so many flaws... what a miserable excuse for an "upscale" hotel this place is. Stay here if you feel that you must impress your friends, relatives and neighbors with the name, but don't plan on getting any sleep before 2a or expecting it to feel the least bit like "the ultimate home away from home," as their website would have you believe. Save yourself the bucks and get a room at a more "mainstream" hotel chain where the rooms are actually maintained, well-kept and quiet!

Just to let you guys know Mondrian West Hollywood will be undergoing a $20 million renovation beginning this August. The renovation is scheduled to be completed by February 2008. All guest rooms will be completely stripped out re-designed and reconfigured. All rooms will have up-to-date technology including flat screen plasma TVs and IPOD docking stations. Mondrian will be more beautiful then ever and so much more than a drink at the bar.

In the interim all rooms are undergoing mandatory preventative maintenance.

This is a 2-star hotel clad in a 5-star hotel's body. The entry and the pool are great, but the rooms are out of date and disappointing.

I was upgraded to a one-bedroom suite for no additional charge, but when I got to my room, I found that the only update that had been done were slipcovers on sofas from who knows when. The bathroom looked like the original construction and was in terrible shape. My tiny NYC bathroom is in much better condition. The bedroom was tiny with just enough room for a queen sized bed and a couch. The living area was more spacious, but once I found the stains on the couch, I only wanted to sit on it after laying down a clean towel.

Positives were the room service menu and a very happening pool scene. But since the pool area is open to the pubic during the day, there were all sorts of characters that rolled in.

Bottom line, I will never stay here again, but may come back to have a drink by the pool.
