“You have got to be kidding me!”

After being so excited to stay at this self proclaimed "Magical Getaway" .. My excitement was quickly snuffed out once I got to my suite that was $660 a night. The carpet was stained, cigarette holes in the floor, cigarette butts under the sofa, the sofa sleeper was not adequate for sleep, the duvet on the bed was ripped (held together with safety pins .. NICE), holes in the white slip-covered sofa ... I could go on forever. Please do not waste your time at this hotel it is truly a BIG disapointment!

I stayed for three nights on business, but hoped to have a little pleasure too – which I did. And that’s the point of staying at this hotel. Everyone agrees that it’s expensive. If this leads you to expect total peace and quiet and up-to-date rooms that were repainted a few days ago, then you’ll only be disappointed. If, on the other hand, you’re looking for something out of the ordinary with an enhanced ‘wow’ factor then this is for you. My suite was large, slightly tatty, but still very stylish. I gather all the rooms will soon be undergoing refurbishment, and not before time – cracked sinks in the bathroom are not on for this kind of money. But the room still felt great, with all-white furniture, floor-to-ceiling windows and those fantastic views.

The rest of the experience followed the same pattern. The staff were hip, funny and friendly – but if you prefer deference then best go elsewhere. Asia de Cuba has good, if overpriced food, but it also has a buzz that you simply don’t find in most hotel restaurants. Skybar is expensive, and it will keep you awake till the wee hours when you want to sleep; but if you want to hang out at what feels like a private LA party then you’ll love it. And so on and so on. The scene around the pool during the day is very posey, but enjoyable in an LA sort of way. Again, you’ll love it or hate it – but you may as well make an informed choice before you go. For me the most telling moment was having lunch just up the road at the Sunset Tower (formerly the Argyle). Beautiful décor, formal, slightly fawning staff –and an atmosphere so muted it was positively funereal. But then of course some people like that. If you're one of them, don’t even think about staying at the Mondrian. If you’re not – and you have the cash to spare – then you’ll enjoy it.

We have checked in with great enthusiasm, with high expectations for a hotel that costs over 500 Usd. Our suit was large, furnished with exremely cheap furniture, torn sofas, old looking kitchenette with sagging doors. Window frames with cigarette left overs and dirty. The bathroom door did not close and the the shower faucet was only functioning if made a big stroke. We asked for an additional bed, and we still had another shock to see how old and torn were the beds. The king size bed was propabaly not changed since the opening, hard as a rock.

After 20 hours of flying from Europe, this was not our expectation about an American Hotel that has such a high price. Immedıtely we have moved to another hotel and we did not aggree to pay the full amount and we ended up paying only half.

As a person travelling almost twice a month I really have not had such an experience before. The only nice thing was, our breakfast and the view.

My grading for the lobby is 5 stars but the room that we were in can only be graded as 2 stars with European standards.

We stayed in a large, single room. This place is diffcult to find because there are only two, huge doors standing in front of this hotel.

The lobby area is phenomenal. Very artsy. The elevators look nice, but you really have to look around to find the buttons to push in order to get the elevators down to the ground floor.

Service: excellent. most staff members were well-trained. no attitudes.

Food: Asia de Cuba. Ouch. The food is overspiced to a point where you can't even taste the original flavors of the ingredients used. Price - well, it's a hotel so can't complain. Service was excellent. Awesome waiters who are really attentive to your every need.

Room: Let's say it has a European flair. Some may say they need to be remodeled. I do agree, but not everything has to be perfectly clean. The sheets were very clean. Carpet was soiled, but not a problem for me. Nice view of Sunset strip.

Bathroom: for a $300plus/night room, this is a disgrace. it looks like it's from the 70s.

Amenities: T-shirts, caps, and other stuff are for sale.

This hotel is nice to stay for the experience, but I probably won't return.

The Mondrian staff made us feel very welcomed. Our room was Amazing. The view was incredible. Our trip to the Skybar lived up to the hype. It had an exclusive feel to it,even though everyone we saw trying to get in... got in. If your going to stay on Sunset and you want to feel like a part of the L.A. scene, the Mondrian delivers...but you gotta pay to play. Not cheap.

My husband and I have stayed at the Mondrian several times over the past couple years. We stay in the suites because the rooms are so small. We request the same room because we have experienced rooms of lesser quality than others. However, the service at the Mondrian is like no other. The service at the Mondrian is better than the Ritz. My husband is an early riser. He will go to the lobby to get a paper. If they do not have a paper, they will find him a paper, or anything he requests. They treat us with such respect and we are your most casually dressed person you would expect to hang out there. The reviews about needing to be dressed a certain way is not true. As my husband and I do not keep up with the trends of today. The staff at Asia de Cuba, Sky Bar, Security, Valet and Bell are the best trained ever. Last weekend my husband and I tried to get reservations because we were going to be in West Hollywood. We were not able to get a room at the Mondrian so we stayed at the Chamberlain West. It is located below Sunset Plaza. The rooms have recently undergone renovation and were much nice and less expensive then what we pay for a suite at the Mondrian. I think it might be time for renovations at the Mondrian. We pay $425 a night at the Mondrian for a suite smaller than the room we stayed in at the Chamberlain and we only paid $259 there. Our bed was brand new with white goose down comforter and pillows all fresh and clean. My husband and I spent most of our time in bed. He wants to go back to the Chamberlain in December.

Mondrian has recently undergone a 35 million dollar refurbishment with our re-launch taking place in September of 2008. We have totally renovated and redesigned all 237 of our guest rooms which now include flat screen TV’s, IPOD Docking Stations, business desks, hardwood flooring, rain showers and some rooms with Jacuzzi tubs. As well we have introduced new mattresses, terry, linen and robes.

In addition we have completely replaced our heating/air conditioning system and all plumbing in the hotel. As we are centrally located in the heart of the Sunset Strip we also installed double-paned sound proof windows in all of our guest rooms.

As SKYBAR continues to be one of Hollywood’s best nightspots and Asia De Cuba restaurant still serves up some of the best cuisine around, we are happy to introduce our new destination bar/lounge, ADCB. Asia De Cuba Bar is located in our main lobby and includes a brand new tapas and sushi menu.

Whether you had an awesome visit or not so great experience with us before, we are confident you will love us now

I was so excited to stay here until I arrived. We had a very large room, but there were stains all over the carpet. The room looked very outdated. I found the staff to be rude. The front desk didn't answer the phone. The Sky bar is nice, but extremely loud when you want to get some sleep. It is a scene, but I can't believe they get away with charging the amount of money they charge. For the same money, you could be treated like luxury. The second night of our stay was a private party outside by the pool. We couldn't enjoy the pool the whole afternoon/ night, as they were setting up- how ridiculous.
