“Very LA”
Reviewed May 8, 2005

Stayed a couple of times in April - in a Junior Suite and a one bedroom suite.

Rooms were beautiful and comfortable with white furnishing accented by light greens. The bathrooms were however not great...the showers in both my rooms were dated and uncomfortable to use.

The pool area is great but crowded at weekends. Its not really where you go to relax - lots of non-guests come here to hang out and be seen. Music plays from the bar and there were quite a few children there - especially at weekends. Competition for the sunbeds was intense!

Service was great and professional - not rude at all. The food and beverage prices were however, extortionate even by London standards.

All in all - I had a pleasant experience and got to share an elevator with Brad Pitt.

Sure this place is pretentious - but so is LA.

I am writing this on my last of 4 nights at the Mondrian, overlooking the House of Blues. After reading a number of previous reviews I questioned my decision to stay at the Mondrian at the suggestion of my cousin who lives in L.A. After having spent the last 3 evenings here I can say that I disagree with many of the comments although I have made a few similar observations. The staff has been kind, friendly and accomodating in every way. From the Doormen to the Housekeeping staff and especially Christian the Consierge who was very helpful the personnel get high marks. The facility is showing some wear although the first floor common areas rate an A- / B+ and our room the largest suite (775s.f.) included a kitchen, LR, BR and bath was a decent B. Was it pricey? yes was it well located, clean and trendy? yes. Would I return? maybe. I would try the Beverly Hills Hotel or the Wilshire for similar rates. Oh yes, the Skybar was enjoyable but not necessarily worth staying at the Hotel to gain admission. Overall I would rate the experience a B with an A price so if you're a value traveller this is not the place for you If you want to stay at the hotel where the "A" list hangs out, by all means stay at the Mondrain.

This hotel is clearly riding a little too hard on it's name. The bed in our room was hard and lumpy and uncomfortable, (I've slept better at a Sheraton). The bathroom hadn't been updated since the eighties, and the paint job looked like it had been done by nine year-old. Most of the staff were great, but some were unbelievably rude. The poor valet guys are overwhelmed 24 hours a day. The lobby and pool area are ok, but not nearly as good as the other Schrager hotels. There are much better options than this in L.A. The Chateau Marmont comes immediately to mind.

This hotel is unbelievably pretentious. The all-white rooms made us feel like we were in an operating room. The staff are somewhat rude.
If you are going to spend the money stay down the block atthe Chateau Marmont- much more relaxed, laid back, with an old-world feel to it.
(The Sky Bar and Asia de Cuba are nice, however, but also quite snooty- and we are young people in the business, so I can't even imagine how they would treat overweight midwesterners here)

Want a great party? Found it! Want a quiet night's sleep? Ummm, maybe. This is a hip, elegant hotel with sleek decor, a great outdoor bar, a pool where every woman seems to be reading a script and every guy is adjusting his new sunglasses. It's a total designer setting that can boast LA's best dressed staff and the world's fastest valet parking. We've stayed here twice, only had to request a room change once, and will stay again. Whoever you are, they make you feel as cool as the place looks. And that's very cool.

Mondrian always had a rep for terrible service but it seemed like for a while they had cleaned up their act. Well it is right back to the horrible, rude staff. They got the name wrong on my room by switching the first and last names so all my visitors, clients, or anyone looking for me at the hotel were refused entry or told I was not a registered guest. When 2 clients finally did meet me at the bar, the waitress was such a ***** that I could not believe I was paying for this place. She is definitely not a person cut out for the service industry. If you want West Hollywood without the rude service and attitude - try one of the many hotels off the strip like Chamberlain, Le Montrose or Bel Age.
