“Far far away”
Reviewed April 27, 2012

Statues are poignant and interesting, but they are few and far between. Takes a while to drive there from anywhere, and I don't know that it's worth it unless they have a veterans' day celebration or some such thing going on.

Kind of in the middle of nowhere, a moving experience but slightly weird.

“Quiet and Peaceful park”
Reviewed December 23, 2011

When you leave Weed on rt 97, do not turn left off of the road at the intersection with a12, as we were told to, but stay on the road for another mile or so and you will find it. This detour took us maybe 10 miles out of the way and we had to double back to see it. We were the only ones at this park, and it was quite peaceful and serene. There is a walk from the parking lot, but it is level. You enter the hub and the individual memorials were off on the spokes. As a fellow veteran it took me back in a more inspirational manner. The final memorial you come upon has Shaste in the background. Definately worth an hour of you time, expecially for veterans.

“A moving memorial off the beaten path”
Reviewed September 12, 2011

We love sculpture and came of age in the Vietnam era. A friend from Asland told us about this place because we were heading south so we detoured off to see it. Highway construction had entrance closed when we arrived but I parked and asked if we could walk in and they said OK. Sure glad we did. The sculptures capturing the human images of war and its impact on individuals are moving experiences. Our visit was enhanced by the solitude. No one else dared brave the construction crews so we had the place to ourselves. The art is arranged in such a fashion that most viewings are against a backdrop of glacier girded Mount Shasta, an awesome spectacle in itself. The Living Memorial Sculpture Garden won't show up in a lot of the most popular tour guides, but it is definitely worth the trip if not for the sculpture then for the individual personal mementos and memorials visitors have constructed on the site. There are many such memorials and while not as artistic as the sculpture, every bit as moving.
