“Late check in success”
Reviewed February 8, 2013

Last August after a very trying week (my sister passed away) I decided to take our son to Santa Cruz. We had a great day, but that night when we realized we didn't want to drive all the way home, we had a terrible time finding a reasonalby priced hotel with availability. Luckily I already had a few places in mind and new that Watsonville was close and had options that weren't as expensive as the coast. I used my smart phone and gps and it led me past the Comfort Inn. I made a U-turn and am so glad we did. My son was already asleep and it was late. The nice man at the front desk was very understanding and even discounted the rate because it was so late. We had a nice breakfast the next morning (brought it back to our room) and stayed until the last minute before check out. It was just what we needed. My room was clean and I had no complaints.

Read reviews so we were happy to stay while passing through. At first it looked ok. Just a little dated. By morning when room was well lite. I was really steaming! Lazy housekeeping! Broken things in room. Carpet badly in need of just good vacuuming. Upholstery in room and eating area horrible. Dried food on chairs. Just nasty! I politely gave a list of room items that were in need of cleaning or fixing to the front desk. They were very kind and said they would let manager know. If the housekeeping staff was better there would be nothing to complain about. The manager on arriving sent me an email apologizing. He said he would see to the problem. However he didn't have to see my room to know there was a problem. Look only as far as the common eating area and he would know. I hope it gets cleaned up before anyone else stays there. My money was refunded. However I would prefer that he gets the hotel under control for the reputation of Choice Hotels. The front desk staff was very nice. Just cleanliness issue, nothing more.

Room Tip: Stay elsewhere while they get housecleaning in order.

We selected this place while driving through the area because we happened to have our dog with us, and this place was listed as being pet-friendly. They do allow dogs, with a $10 or $15 surcharge.

The room was fine--nothing fancy, but clean, large, and comfortable. The mattresses and bedding are nice for a hotel in this class. The area between Santa Cruz and the Monterey Penninsula is obviously a high-priced place for accomodations--certainly far less so in Watsonville than in Santa Cruz, Carmel, etc.--but the price was quite reasonable for this area. With a small AAA discount, I think we paid $70 (plus a few buck extra for the dog) for a large room with two queen beds on a Friday night. Though only a 20 to 30 minute drive to either Santa Cruz or Monterey/Carmel, you could easily pay twice that much or more for similar weekend-price accomodations in either of those places.

The place does not have a lot of amenities (no pool, no jacuzzi, workout room, etc.)--it's just a place to sleep. There is free wi-fi access, but in our room at least (which was at the opposite end of the hotel from the office), it was basically useless--we could get a very weak, very slow signal only if we sat in the corner of the room right next to the window, and no signal at all anywhere else in the room on any of our wireless devices. I gave up and just used my 3G/4G cellular data service, which was way faster.

Breakfast is included, and while hardly a gourmet breakfast, it was a cut above the usual prepacked industrial pastries and weak orange juice that you typically see in places of this class. There was a hot self-serve breakfast buffet with scrabled eggs and bacon, yogurt, fruit, make-your-own waffles, etc. Again, not memorable food, but much better than expected for a free breakfast.

Not that Watsonville is a particularly happening place anyway, but there is really nothing in the way of local attractions near this hotel. It's basically in a light industrial area, with little or or no dining or retail options adjacent. On the plus side, it's a mile or so off the highway, so there's no annoying highway noise and the it's a quiet area at night in general.

In short, this is a budget motor inn that meets or exceeds most expectations for places of this class/price range.

This hotel is conveniently located in Watsonville, CA. The hotel room was clean, very roomy and cozy equipped with a microwave and refrigerator. Our hotel room was located on the first floor directly next to the front desk and the breakfast room. The only thing is that you can hear the street traffic as the window was right next to the street. This hotel does not have a pool. The hot breakfast was delicious and filling. It consisted of eggs, sausage, waffles, fruit, oatmeal, pastries, coffee and tea. This hotel is very affordable and close to Aptos, Capitola and Santa Cruz.

The hotel is not close to shopping or dinning as it is located on the outskirts of town. So bring back a meal or eat out. There are so many places that offer good and affordable food on the way to the hotel. Will definately stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a higher floor to alleviate the sound from the street. Or if you want to stay on...

Close to the freeway, near a shopping center and many meal options, this hotel is clean and the quietest of any of the Watsonville hotels I've stayed in. The free wi-fi and breakfast make it a great business hotel stay. Would also recommend it for those traveling through the area.

The front desk people were wonderful....warm and friendly and helpful. We were there for three nights to see family and were very comfortable. The wireless was acting up, but the young man came up and got it going immediately. Breakfast is a little lame...not much to choose from and a little skimpy...by the time we got down there it was mostly done. The price is somewhat high for what you get, but the whole area is so expensive that it actually turns out to be a pretty good value. We will certainly stay there next time we come.

The place was clean and comfortable. Glad we had the g.p.s. to find the motel. it is about 1 1/2 miles off the freeway. somewhat of an industrial zone.We just stayed there 1 night. If we are ever in the area again we would stay there.
