“Grand Island Mansion Brunch”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2012

Went here on Sunday for their once a month brunch. I wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be pulling up to the Mansion. The website definitely has very good pictures of the place, and well I was just expecting more. The yard is very beautiful, but I wouldn't call the place grandiose in anyway. The entrance into the Mansion is very nice, and then you step into the banquet room for brunch and you feel like you stepped into Olive Garden (except tackier). The art is cheesy at best. The bathroom is the size of a closet, and the toilet is well worn.It doesn't appear that you can take a walk around the mansion or in any of the other rooms. I'm sure this place could be quite stunning for a wedding (the other rooms might be quite beautiful), but as far as for a visit for lunch, well, I definitely wouldn't drive out from Sacramento again unless they were going to offer a tour or some other attraction. The service was good, the food was fine, and the metal outdoor furniture was a little uncomfortable.

“Fancy with a Capital F”

This is where Ronald Reagan -- when Governor -- spent many a weekend. Classy place for a wedding. A little tough to leave after a drink or two as the road is narrow.

“Unique class and a true slice of history”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 2, 2011

Mr Black's Grand Island mansion is a rare treat. Our best description is a perfect day with great food and a time trip back to historic design. My wife is a nationally known architect who very rarely gets a chance to see old world quality and care to detail the owner has offered here to the public.
A fine gift on a summer drive.

“Beautiful on the outside”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 7, 2009

The grounds and the mansion in itself are lovely. We decided to drive up to this place on a whim one weekend and we were pleasantly surprised. The place is very secluded and tucked away. However, the road to get to the mansion was odd and surrounded by the water as driving on it too fast could be a bit dangerous- so beware. We took highway 5 to get there from Napa. We have done extensive research on their website and thought that this place would be bigger. Its just a normal-sized mansion or house with a lot of old antique peices and lots of victorian character to it.

The place is gorgeous and we have set-up to look at the entire mansion prior to proceeding to our brunch. there are several rooms in the mansion and the staircase looks divine. The outside roman-style garden was smaller than we anticipated....the back area was a bit bigger. For the brunch, the food was good. They are quite expensive and the lady we spoke with about having a family party with the place was a bit amusing much like a cat. Overall, it is nice, but we ended up not booking a family reunion with them since the venue is just too expensive. For one day, it would be better to have your events at another place since the drive is so far and the next nearest hotel in the area is not until Elk Grove, unless you want to stay at a run-down motel.
