Toyo sushi is like an oasis on the foothills of Mt Diablo in Contra Costa County, CA.
Rivals sushi in San Francisco and New York.
Service is very friendly and Tom is a great joker.
Nigiri is always fresh. Once he had uni from Santa Barbara and it felt like it just came out of the ocean.
Hamachi Kama (Tuna cheeks) is exceptional.
They always suprise you with free samplers, especially towards the evening.
If you are in the area, you can't go wrong. Great place to bring kids who order the battered fish and meat.
Largest selection of hand rolls anywhere and you can design your own if you have time.

Finally went to Toyo for lunch and was not disappointed. From the sushi drawings on the wall, i suspected that this place is a good bet for sushi. But it was a cold day, and I was in the mood for some udon.

Tempura udon was yummy. Presentation on the tempura was beautiful, although the shrimp had too much batter on it. My hubby had a bento box with tempura and mackarel -- Pretty big serving! The mackarel was not at all salty and quite delicious.

The restaurant is pretty busy at lunch time -- thanks to traffic from the Shadelands business park next door. To do for next time - get some sushi.
